...that track Mick was grooving to on the harmonica in September 2018 just sounded great out of the gate and was nothing like they'd done recently, hope it made it on the album.

That was indeed a great clip which has a vintage Midnight Rambler jamming vibe to it...something from the darker depths...
Would be fantastic if it makes it on the album in one form or another, but hopefully not too cleaned up and sterilized.

Well said. That is precisely how I like my Stones - dark, dirty, and blue.

Agreed. Kinda similar to his in-the-pocket intros on many Keith gems, like the ones below -

Roger Friedman throws Mick Taylor's name into the mix of "Hackney Diamonds" contributors - and Ringo Starr is mentioned yet again.

The Rolling Stones Set to Announce First New Album of Songs in Years on Sept 6th, “Hackney Diamonds”

by Roger Friedman - September 1, 2023

The fall looks very promising now.

Keith Richards says the new Rolling Stones album, called “Hackney Diamonds,” will be announced next Tuesday.

We already know many stars make cameos including ex Stones Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, plus Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. There are no doubt others, including the last playing of drums by the later great Charlie Watts. As I exclusively reported, the Stones finished recording in the Bahamas this past spring.

Will the album include their pandemic hit, “Living in a Ghost Town”? Hope so! And does this mean another US tour? Again, fingers crossed!

Personally, I'd prefer the new album NOT include LIAGT. It's a great track but it's had its run, and would only take up a potential spot from another track we have yet to hear. I think it was great as a stand-alone single, particularly given the timing and the world climate of its release.

Ride like the wind at double speed.....

So has any one else heard that Mick Taylor is on the album or is this just wishful thinking?

The [www.hackneydiamonds.com] site is counting down to Wednesday September 6 at these local times:

15:30 Central Europen Time
2:30pm UK time
9:30am EST (NYC / East Coast USA)
6:30am PST (LA / West Coast USA)

I really hope that this doesn't mean that Australia and New Zealand miss out on this release and possible Tour!

Looks like they're going to Australia but not New Zealand. I'll just put my money into other bands touring New Zealand

I read that Ringo has denied that he will be on the new Stones album.

Also a Universal spokesperson shut down the Ringo rumour at the same time they were confirming Paul McCartney.
But that was way back in February, and maybe they brought in Ringo since then to add some magical Beatle backbeat?!
More than likely though, the writer Roger Friedman has it completely wrong altogether in that article. -> BillMaccaEltonRingo
That said, no official confirmation or official denial yet from the Universal spokesperson regarding Mick Taylor, Elton, or Dua Lipa.

I'll tell you a secret. In 2023 in popular music barely anybody records guitar through a real tube amp anymore. They're all just using amp simulation plugins. Since this is produced by Andrew Watt, it can very well be that the guitar is just going through some Guitar Rig preset...

Also, whoever played this - in modern pop productions everything gets time aligned (quantized) to the grid in Pro Tools. That could be why it's so super clean and exact timing wise.

You are right....but...somebody like i.e. Mike Campbell & his band The Dirty Knobs still record guitars in the studio through Fender valve amps with a mic in front of it......obviously the point of that is to get a more organic guitar sound.

Jason Isbell
Drive-By Truckers
The Cult
AC/DC
The Rolling Stones
U2
Pearl Jam

Probably quite a lot of other bands/artists that use valve(tube) amps. It's the best sound.
