I wouldn't call it a leak, it's just part of the teaser campaign.

I wrote: intended leak - similar to 'bootlegging the bootleggers'.

Universal Music calls it: 'breadcrumb' (in the website's source code). The breadcrumb was thrown on Fri, 1-Sep-2023.

Counting in a song sounds like such a cliché, I was disappointed to hear that, but can't wait to hear the full song! Where will the chorus take us? Is there a bridge? Will they have some acoustic behind those electric guitars? Only Wednesday will tell...

If I'm honest I was disappointed the second I heard the drums and guitar. I was really hoping for a polka. And then when Mick sang in English, I mean we've had sixty years of almost everything sung in English. I was really hoping for German or Polish this time.

Roger Friedman throws Mick Taylor's name into the mix of "Hackney Diamonds" contributors - and Ringo Starr is mentioned yet again.

The Rolling Stones Set to Announce First New Album of Songs in Years on Sept 6th, “Hackney Diamonds”

by Roger Friedman - September 1, 2023

The fall looks very promising now.

Keith Richards says the new Rolling Stones album, called “Hackney Diamonds,” will be announced next Tuesday.

We already know many stars make cameos including ex Stones Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, plus Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. There are no doubt others, including the last playing of drums by the later great Charlie Watts. As I exclusively reported, the Stones finished recording in the Bahamas this past spring.

Will the album include their pandemic hit, “Living in a Ghost Town”? Hope so! And does this mean another US tour? Again, fingers crossed!

Roger Friedman has revised his earlier piece to note (UPDATED no Mick Taylor) and (UPDATED no Ringo Starr).

Still has the announcement day as Tuesday, though...

It does work after a couple of tries. Suspect the dial up-ish slow loading/error went exactly as planned.

Just like burying the initial advert in a local London weekly.

The audio clip's on YouTube - no "errors" there. ; )

I don't really see the point of counting in an intro on a studio album...

Maybe a reminiscence to the Beatles track 'Taxman' ? winking smiley

C'mon, count-offs heighten the excitement!!

Here's the most extreme, and perhaps funniest, intro countdown to a song that I can think of....great track too!.....

18 years of waiting and some statements by Jagger talking about a 'great album' created very high expectations.
Honestly, i didn't expect from this first snippet something more reminiscent of solo Jagger than the Stones.
I've listened to it on loop dozens of times and i keep hearing the Jagger of 'I Can't Take It No More' or a Primitive Cool outtake or Eazy Sleazy vibes.
That's the feeling I get...but I hope to be totally proven wrong when the single and album come out.

thumbs up .. I was thinking "Goddess in the doorway" outtake.....

Don't call me up
Don't tell me when something is beautiful
Don't tear me up (Wandering spirit)..
Don't get angry with me.......

...but it was only 19 seconds so we'll see......

Maybe before the single is released, they'll put out another 19 second Angry teaser to help fill in some blanks...maybe the last 19 seconds of the song....

Not sure that releasing a 19 second clip was the best strategy, and it might have been best to wait and release it in it's entirety on Wednesday.
As a first impression though, 19 seconds does seem enough to get the general gist of it, and there definitely seems to be a mixed bag of thoughts from everyone.
From Jagger solo leftover/outtakes, to Superheavy garbage, to 40 Licks extras ala Don't Stop, to some that even think its reminiscent of the classic riff from Soul Survivor?!!!
I suppose we can suspend the reality of what we know right now from the 19 second clip, but the cat is already partially out of the bag rearing it's head and claws, and the stage has been set.
So here we finally are with a Jagger/Richards/Watt tune, and whether it's origins are Jagger solo, Superheavy, or a completely new song, it's indeed a new era for the Stones. Looking forward....

Album featuring, among others, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman it is really a disappointment that there is not also Mick Taylor on a new studio song. But I'm sure I'll be very happy with the arrival of the new album.

Doesn't they count - very quietly though - in the beginning of "Sway"? You know, before Mick hits the opening chords (and of course, making it unbearable for true Rolling Stones fans. No Keith, no Stones..)

Personally I think the "Angry" clip is way to short to give any real understanding of the song.

I would compare the Hackney Diamonds marketing with the NME Exile flexi we got in 1972. I played the flexi to pieces (I bought three copies of that NME issue).

The proplem with internet and marketing is we get so much more fragmented teasers. An ad in a local paper. A countdown timer. A very short song intro. Stickers and tongue projections. It is all marketing.

By Wednsday next week we will have the real song, that will be great news.

We have to be patient - very patient - but we have been waiting for 18 years - a long wait!

London and UK do still have lots and lots of these traditional red payphone boxes. I just love them. But I wonder who is using them, as we all have our own phones these days.

As far as I remember in London I saw red phone boxes with wifi hotspot.
