To me, One More Shot, just sounds more Stonesy than Doom & Gloom. Just listened to em back to back, and yeah, it's a great song. Loooooooooooove that riff.

do all the double deckers in England now have that modern look to them?

Not sure about the whole of England, but the new London double-decker buses (New Routemaster) were produced 2011–2017 - [en.Wikipedia.org] .

Thanks Irix!!! Guess like everything else they got 'improved.'

One More Shot is certainly OK, but Doom & Gloom is terrific, in my opinion. At least, I thought it was upon release. This is the thing: ‘classic’ Stones, I’ll forever revisit, but anything later gets overlooked. I guess you can’t beat their prime. That’s what they’ll be remembered for. It’s the same with Blue & Lonesome. I listened to it repeatedly in the immediate period of its release, but have I heard it in recent years? Have I had a yearning to do so? Nope! Still, I’m excited for the new release. It’ll be in rotation for a month, before I put it to bed, ha-ha. Back to Let it Bleed, Exile and that plethora of live shows.

Loved D&G live in Nashville (2015).

If (a HUGE if) by some miracle, the new Stones album was as good as any of the Big 4 (or 5 or 6...), how would it sell? Would it be placed among the top Stones albums, or has the fan-base aged too much and how society currently digests music changed too much in the last 40+ years?

Everyone´s taste is exactly as it should be. Life right now is the only proof we have and need. Tom can only be Tom. Darlene can only be Darlene.

As apparent by the brilliantly clever guerrilla marketing sneak announcement of Hackney Diamonds in the Hackney Gazette, the Stones organization (and presumably, Mick Jagger) haven’t lost their touch for gaining maximum publicity for minimum investment.

Based on the opening acts they’ve selected for the last several tours, they are still reaching out to the younger demographic.

I’d love to see them do another performance on Saturday Night Live this Fall to promote the new album. Mick won’t have to run all around the stage, and Keith could easily sleep in his own bed.

I guess I think that's why I enjoy that I came to them later in their career maybe. IDK. I do approach the whole catalog much different than most here, but my first intro's were SW and The London Years, so for me the older stuff was singles only. As I'd hear other songs on the radio during those days of 89-90 (Monkey Man, Gimme Shelter are 2 that come to mind), I'd check the back of TLY to double check if they were on there and confirm they weren't. At that point, I assumed they were just deep cuts being played, which really they were. Did not know of their popularity.

I don't often revisit the 60's stuff pre-Big 4.5, with the exception of BTB, and that's probably as much for the cover as anything. US Aftermath to a lesser extent. Flowers is really my go-to there.

For me, the ones I most often reach for are VL, B2B, LIB, DW, SF, GHS, TY, EOMS, B&B, Checkerboard, El Mo, and Stripped.

Rarely played: ER, U, LYL & B&L (I put these together because I don't think I've listened to either of them more than a dozen times), SL, IORR, first 3 albums.

Everything else is somewhere in the middle.

ABB I literally listened to nonstop for 6 months. Nothing else. It'd been 8 friggin years after all! LOL Haven't given it a listen in some time. Think I will before the release of HD.

I've enjoyed many of the Frankenstein songs they've released on the Super Deluxe reissues, though there again, I differ from the majority. Prefer Following The River to Pass The Wine. Criss Cross though is a damn classic - was really hoping they would have broken out that one in 21. I can't believe that sat in the vaults for all those years! My God!! Makes me wonder what else they have sitting around! That's also a very favorite of mine!

One of their users said he'd read somewhere that all the tracks on the new record were played by Charlie, but two.

Another user mentions a specific date for the announcement!

He also mentions he read that date was posted here. confused smiley

I think a few dates when the Hackney Empire is available were being thrown around.

It will sell the same no matter how good or bad it is. I mean if it's so publicly laughably bad that could have an viral effect but I don't really see that.

I think it almost has to be great just because it won't sell that much and there is no trend they can jump on to move a few more units.

Basically I am seeing this as a gift to the hard core who wants new music but I also know it can still be Dirty Work bad. Pre-ordering when it's announced and I don't even buy new music aside from concert DVD's any more.

I also like the fact the release is likely separate from any tour. By the time the next tour, if there ever is one, gets booked the album cycle is over.

I discovered the Stones through my dad. It was all 60’s-era Stones records. He owned a handful of their DECCA 45’s, and the following LP’s: The Rolling Stones (U.K. debut), Out of Our Heads, Big Hits, and Through the Past Darkly. Everything, post-Brian Jones, I discovered entirely on my own… with a little help from the info obtained through these forums!

That campaign, I find, follows earlier good ideas like the flatbed truck. Ok it's not exactly the same, but really, I like the surprise factor this has created for a band established 1962.

Hilarious!

God, I love this band!

Then again, speaking of Hackney Diamonds as broken glass, this reminded me of Mick's voice way back in Hyde Park, quoting Shelley:

Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass,
Stains the white radiance of Eternity,
Until Death tramples it to fragments.—Die,
If thou wouldst be with that which thou dost seek!

September 5th exact 18 years after the release of A Bigger Bang, seems like a good date.

Yes, September 5 was the European release date for ABB, while September 6 was the US release date.

You know what? For Hairball's sake, I'd like them to release the new album on September 4 - because that would be just before ABB turns 18! winking smiley

But life's not always perfect.

I just hope Hackney Diamonds is like Some Girls - perceived at the time as a huge "comeback" with a lot of airtime, played in discos, and a great tour. And of course the songs are simply great.

I would guess that the idea of a September date for the/an announcement comes straight from the ad in the Hackney Gazette.
Georgelicks named two dates in Autumn which he argued were the most appropriate businesswise in view of other (already known) release dates in Autumn.

But regarding Hackney specialists in glass repair one should be careful with particular dates anyway as they are available 24 hours 7 days a week winking smiley

Hackney Glass 24/7

As far as I know they will never do something they already did

Or by other events: 26th July was occupied by the 'Forty Licks' re-release. In August, many people are still in vacation. Early September is a good time to start new things. But the media attention will probably be busy with new Apple devices, introduced on 12th September. In the following week, it's already a bit late for an album introduction.

Release dates for new music is fridays but they wouldn’t announce anything on a Friday and the 4th is Labor Day. I bet announcement will be Wednesday 9/6 and maybe first single Friday 9/8. Here’s hoping. No inside info here

Or digital-only single on the same day as the album announcement and special physical single release e.g. on Record Store Day (Black Friday). Many possibilities - we'll see.
