Charlie Is My Darling DVD out Dec. 5th

From www.spincds.com :

Rolling Stones - 'Charlie Is My Darling' DVD

"Revered by Stones fans worldwide as one of the best unreleased gems from the 60s!"
"This fine piece of 1960s verite 'rockumentary' directed by Peter Whitehead is an astounding 'fly on the wall' look at the Rolling Stones on tour in Ireland in 1965. Whitehead manages to create an astonishing level of intimacy with the Stones at the height of 'Satisfaction' era mania. Brian Jones' narcissism is clearly visible, Jagger and Richards play up for the cameras and even Watts and Wyman get into the spirit of the times. Fantastic behind-the-scenes, interviews with fans and the band. Footage of the band off stage, hanging out and traveling to gigs" Directed, photographed and edited by Peter Whitehead. Released December 5th

I have a VHS tape of this but I'll buy the dvd version! It's a great little piece, a look inside at the Stones so early on in their careers! I'll dust it off tonight and look at it again, thanks for the reminder!

This is interesting. Anyone know who's releasing this, assuming it's an official release? Neither Amazon nor HMV have it listed, but I found another site that does. It even talked about extras. But, is it official?

Just UK newsreel footage as "bonus selections." Haven't found anything else.

I'm pretty sure it's official. I have never seen bootlegs at Spin, although they do have a lot of stuff from small independent companies.

Nice if it's getting an official release (it kinda makes sense as Andrew Oldham did several personal appearances at special screenings of it across the UK last year)

Maybe it's release will reawaken some of the band's memories of what was their last visit to Belfast and entice them to come back...smiling smiley

Maybe you should start taking this more "personally" Gazza. Maybe it's not a "Belfast thing", per se. Perhaps you should leave a forwarding address or something.

It would be great if they could add some extra live footage from Belfast etc tpo the DVD release. I wonder if Peter Whitehead still has some or if it sadly ended up on the cutting room floor.

The whole film is a great time capsule with some hilarious moments. My favourite is the scene with the paper seller givng a copy of the newspaper to the old geezer which includes the free Stones poster - the old guy stares incredously at the Stones picture as though they are beings from a another planet much to the amusement of the people around him - priceless.

Time capsule? If they made that film here in 2005 - never mind 1965 - they'd STILL get reactions like that!!

I'd suspect this release, if it actually gets out,
will be a grey area one, not authorized by the RS's.

There were a lot of outtakes from 'Charlie' but Whitehead sold the lot, for a patry sum (around £2000) to Allen Klein (or the Stones office via Klein). A few years later, so I've heard, Jagger wanted them back, sending Stu to pick them up in a van. They were then languishing in Mick's house in Cheyne Walk for some time before thieves broke in and stole the lot.

Interestingly I have heard that some, if not all, this footage (some 2 hours worth supposedly) was being hawked around by someone in London, either the original thief, or someone it got passed on to. No one wanted to touch it however as it was obviously stolen and would be difficult to sell on. I know someone who claims to have seen a copy of it and he said it was jaw-dropping.

Any news on this yet?
By the way, I read that "Eat The Document" (Dylan) will be released soon.
