Should Stones go to Rubin like Cash?

Don't get me wrong I love ABB but now in the night of there career. They something that is an ! point on there career and not just the same rehash over and over.

It just sounds like they are desparetly trying to have a hit again.

By the time of Rubin/Cash he was passed that and just went back to being himself and he wound up doing some of his best work ever.

By not trying to be so pop chartish he became cool again and music became so real.

The Stones in the 60's 70's went against the grain not with it.

BTW how can I download Cash video Hurt?

Thanks

It's the right idea, but it would seem that there is bad blood between Jagger and Rubin based on the "Wnadering Spirit" project.

I thought that as soon as I heard they were working on a new album. The stuff rubin produces is all so raw with whoever he produces. His rule of using practically no reverb other than naturalroom is so cool. Everything jumps out of the speakers. The Cult, The Chili Peppers, Cash, Slayer, etc. etc. What he brings out in bands is cool. They would have have greatly benefited from his production. But, then who knows if Keith and Mick could've worked with a control freak like him. 3 people trying to control everything. Anyway, I could totally see a very bluesy, Exile-ish type of production with this guy at the helm.

Oh that's right I forgot he already worked with Mick.

It really doesn't matter about producers at this advanced stage of their career. Nobody in their age bracket has "hits" anymore. It's a young artist's game. They would have to be very lucky. What they really need is to write much better songs. Then at least they would get SOME air-play and maybe sell a few more units.

I always hoped the band would do an autobiographical (Damn, I didn't know I could write a word that long) CD. A lot of their stuff is anyway. But I'm talking about songs about Edith Grove, early shows, flower power, the busts, the Mars bar, Altamont, etc right on up to the present. Whadda ya think?

But that is the problem the focus on selling

When Cash's first CD came out with Rubin it did not sell well.

Only later when it was seen as deep and more reflective and not an attempt to be

a modern country star did it sell

I understand Rubin produced a new album for Neil Diamond which I haven't heard yet, but the reviews say it is very high quality stuff. I've always wanted to hear a fully acoustic Stones and Rubin would be a good choice for something like that.

I think they should at least let him produce a few tracks and see how it goes. Wandering Spirit is Mick's best solo album by far and one of the best things any of them has put out, solo or as the Stones, since Some Girls.

well. it was on a relatively small label (American) so they're not going to have the massive marketing behind them that Virgin/EMi would be capable of - besides, Cash has never really been a country artist who would sell units like the more MOR sappy country acts like Garth Brooks or Shania Twain, etc

To answer the original question - absolutely. Great producer (he's certainly brought the best out of the Chili Peppers as well) and his work on Wandering Spirit is a good enough indication of what he could do with the Stones.

Funny that the Stones and the bad boy of Country Cash peaked at the same time
68-72

Although the last few Cash CD's are close but different

The End result of Wandering Spirit was awesome...Best Jagger solo in my opnion...however, most interviews at the time clearly expressed that things didn't go so well in the studio between Mick and Rubin.

Rubin tends to be the hands-on, controlling type from what I hear..

Keith would REALLY love that, wouldnt he? LOL

It's funny though that a lot of great albums come from producers who challenge a band or individual to try new approaches and to "break out of a mold" ... I think a certain amount of friction can be good for creativity.
