Awesome.

And that's a lot of amps on stage. Looks like Tetris.

Cool - Ronnie's putting his "Stay With Me" Zemaitis to good use and definitely looks ready for the tour.

Right-on, Silvana and I will be at the show here in Oakland tonight, at the Fox. I don't expect Tom Waits coming up for a scream.

I've given the new album a good spin now. A solid effort. I look forward to seeing them live in a few months.

Nico looks the part, but the chops are pedestrian. Sports bar stuff. I give him 18 months.

18 months to do...what?

Be a year and a half older.

COME ON!

DO THE MATH!

They sound good.

I know they're a bit younger than The Cult but, the loss of various original and excellent additional band members aside, the essence of is still going. That's a detail of context that has been whined about as well as admired: The Black Crowes are Chris and Rich Robinson, just as The Cult are Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy.

If I was as much as a crank as some people are about TBC I would've stopped listening to The Cult when LOVE came out in 1985 because they weren't the same band as the 1984 DREAMTIME band was, and I didn't get into The Cult until 1988 (bizarrely I missed out on the ELECTRIC time).

Well, in that vein, the DreamTime band wasn't even the same band as Death Cult, since it wasn't all the original members, and really Southern Death Cult doesn't really count, as that was only Asbury......

Oh really.

Nigel Preston drummed on God's Zoo and The Cult's DREAMTIME.

OK so Nigel was the Death Cult's second drummer but The Cult's original drummer.

No one mentioned Southern Death Cult, you did - with zero relevance regardless.

You want to talk about the original Rolling Stones then? Because it's extremely similar.

You might want to consider other avenues for arguing such petty details - or just accept that other bands/artists have had similar changes (yet alone be grateful they're still going). Even The Cult joked about being like Spinal Tap.

Death Cult was the first real incarnation of The Cult, and I was merely pointing out that, for all intents and purposes, the Dreamtime lineup wasn't the same as the original lineup is all. And I merely mentioned SDC for those on here who may not be familiar with either incarnation, but fancy Ian's voice (like myself), and who might want to explore some other options. That's all.

No pettiness here. Geeeez

Well, sorry.

But.

Nigel was with Death Cult and then The Cult. It's splitting hairs about Ray Mondo.

Aside from Ronnie Woods command performance on Stay With Me, the band and their new album lands with a thud. It's a shame, was hoping for much better.

To each their own!! I love it. Listen to it at least once a day. Sounds fresh, authentic and 100000% BC. Wish I could say the same for HD.

Great stuff, never knew the Crowes covered that gem. Love so much of Ronnie's solo material, particularly the first two albums.

The Crowes have covered quite a lot of Stones tracks. I remember seeing them in the late 90s in Dublin, last gig of whatever tour that was, and for the encore they played a rip-roaring version of 'Happy'.

The Black Crowes have turned into a frigging lame session musicians band, with Chris acting a weird feminine version of himself. And why on earth do you put the drummer 20 feet high on a riser -it really means you don't give a fvck about the music anymore.

Completely agree.
The ridiculous drum riser allows for a bigger mirror so that Chris can fan-boy on himself during the gig.

Sad.

Tonight at the Eventim
Apollo Hammersmith in London was Steven Tyler the surprise guest for the last song. Jimmy Page was beside the stage.

London show last night was the best gig I've seen for years.

It was nice to see The Black Crowes in London on Wednesday night because it's been a while. A solid show, not great, but decent. Short and sweet, which suits me. Getting an encore of "Mama Kin" with Steven Tyler was a big added bonus. I'm pretty sure I saw Jimmy Page before the gig, and was hoping to see him up on stage, but alas, that did not happen. Decent show, however, they would do well to get Gorman back on drums.

Ok, saw them yesterday in Milano.

Odd location, a theatre built for classic music concerts: visual was great, but the all seated parterre - and velvet seats!!! - plus the orchestra pit in FOS doesn't exactly fit with my definition of rock and roll room.

Chris seemed to agree.

I wonder who chose it.

Well, at least we will be getting a great sound, I hoped. No way! They were anble to fuc up everything and make it even worse than the Shake Your Money Maker show of last year, which already was a total disgrace. Excessive PA volume, distorted and compressed. You could see there was a second guitarman and a keyboardist, but you could hardly hear them. No dynamics, just a huge wall of sound.

This is not how the BC should sound!

That said, the set list was excellent and the band played very well. First timers were impressed, but having seen them already quite a few times, this was not one of their magic nights. Everything was slightly rushed, the solos and jams a little phoned.

Truly loved the new drummer. KB and second guitar, as noted, couldn't hear a thing.

Rich could smile at least once per show!

I found Chris voice aging extremely well.

I have to say that I actually liked the stage design.

To the next time!

Same problem at the Olympia in Paris, the sound was incredibly LOUD ! Just as bad as the Trabendo in 2012 ! Fortunately I learnt my lesson there (after being half death for a couple of days) and have had the great Pacato Full Frequency Earplugs handy ever since [www.daddario.com] - normally I only use them at most during 50% of a loud rock show but for the BC it was 100%. Not only do they "turn the volume down", they actually bring the voice forward somehow.

Other than that great show, CR's voice was a lot better than it was 2 years ago and the stage design was indeed pretty cool.

Apart from the excessive volume a truly great rock show.

The Black Crowes were really great in Berlin yesterday.
First a very powerful support act from Jim Jones All Stars (30 min.)
Then the Crowes, cool stage design, I've never saw such a high drum kit.
We were in the middle of the second row, the sound was almost perfect for us.
The setlist offered 6 songs from the new album, the Velvet Underground song "White Light White Heat" was fantastic, the last 4 tracks of the setlist were just extremely good and were very well received by the audience.
Jim Jones came back for the encore and rocked with Chris, Rich and the Crowes the old Jerry Lee classic in our faces.
A great night (95 min.) ... but the old Stones play a little longer winking smiley
