This is a really tough vote but for me The Beatles. It was a toss up with The Who, because of their live performances. The Beatles studio, The Who live. All wonderful.

If we reduce this to the best post 50's rock band I would say The Rolling Stones. Certainly the most commercially successful and iconic rock band ever. If you add pop to the category it would be The Beatles. The word best is an aber though. There are better musicians around. It's a matter of categorizing.
