Haven't past Stones meet and greets turned out to be something of a joke? I recall reading (but can't recall where) that groups of four or five people are led into a room where the Stones await. They are told in advance- no individual pictures, no autographs, no questions, etc. They gather around for a picture with the Stones, say "hi", maybe shake hands and then are escorted out. The whole thing lasts for less than a minute.
Can someone either confirm or refute this narrative?
Confirmed, I have a friend who did it in Vegas years ago, and while he did end up with a nifty photo of himself and other fans standing with the band,
that's about the only positive that came out of the entire situation. In other words, waste of time and money.
What did he pay? Maybe he doesn’t think it a waste.
Even if you paid the $20k, had the time of your life, but were broke 10 years down the line and started to regret paying the $20k, you say:
It went to charity and I helped others.

Nowhere near $20,000 - there were several different meet and greet and/or VIP options.
And yes, he thought it was pretty much a waste, although he proudly still has the photo as a token souvenir.

I mean compare the 78 live version of Miss You that Dandy recently posted with anything from the recent tours and you realize that even on their best nights they can’t come close to sounding that good anymore…not even close

Yes, I was mesmerized by that video Dandelion posted, and thought how exciting that '78 tour must have been with the brand new Some Girls album to promote. Unfortunately I didn't see that tour (my first shows were in '81, excellent in their own right with Tattoo You being the new album), but based on that Miss You video alone it had to have all been thrilling. All of them were on fire in that clip - Mick lurking around, Bill and Charlie holding down the fort, Keith letting it rip, and even Ronnie playing some great guitar throughout - they don't come anywhere near that anymore obviously, and haven't for quite a long time.
Well, l do believe if the money is right they will do it in a minute, and l don't think they give a shit what we think, and yes Aerosmith has always been an imitation of The Stones and at times a very good one.....Quote

I doubt The Stones would do this; Aerosmith always copies The Stones, not the other way around.
Even opening acts are treated to a similar "experience".Quote

I remember Lars telling that story keefriff99,it was actually worse than you remember it.
Metallica and the third band on the bill,Everclear were standing around talking and just hanging out waiting for the Stones to come by and say hello.
So this lady who was not named walks in and says”ok,Metallica stand on this side and Everclear on that side, the Stones will be here in a minute”
They walked in a few minutes later and said hello to everyone and left about 30 seconds later.Lars said”this was my Rolling Stones experience” sounding half disappointed and half disgusted.
Not a fan of either of these acts but Everclear were popular then and Metallica were huge and still are. It was the only live shows they did that year and the word I got was half the crowd was there for them.(they’re from SF)
To make it worse Lars had put out a really respectful glowing press releases saying how they hadn’t been an opening act for a long time but it was a career highlight to do a show with the Stones.
And they got hall monitor lady and a 30 second hello.anyone who excuses this kind of shit isn’t a fan they’re a hero worshiper

Poor poor pitiful Lars, it is miraculous that he was able compose himself and play drums that night,
he must have been shattered... he probably still cries himself to sleep thinking about that mean ole Mick Jagger.
It figures you'd be the one to blow his rather mild critique out of proportion.Quote

It's hard to compare the Stones to bands like AC/DC and Metallica.Quote

I recall that story keefriff99, in fact I was at that show.
Having seen Metallica in the mid-'80's when they were still edgy and relatively unknown, and then seeing them become somewhat diluted and sterile thereafter with their rise in popularity, I opted to stay at a bar with friends pre-show rather than endure them as opening acts. Nothing wrong with them really, but seemed such an odd choice to have as an opening act for a Stones show. I do recall some young knucklehead Metallica fans after the show was over boldly claiming "Metallica blew the Stones away"!!! haha. Perhaps for them it was true, but have to think they were in the minority on that one.
Then again, many claimed AC/DC blew the Stones away at the SARS festival, and it was more than just a few who claimed that - in fact I think it was almost unanimous.
I saw him telling the story on television and he wasn’t upset in the least,he was telling it as a kind of puzzling event rather than something that upset him.Quote

He seemed surprised at what a bunch of douches the Stones were, and any fair minded person would say they clearly were.
Leonioid,I see you’re still heading up the rapid response team to put down any dissension in the ranks. Is there anything they could do to make you criticize them? Cmon, there has to be something,
Maybe we should talk about Micks favorite color and Keith’s favorite food so you don’t get upset.
