There's alot of gems in country music: Alot of Glen Campbell stuff is great.... Gentle on my Mind, Wichita Lineman, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Galveston... love that stuff. Waylon Jennings is awesome... get his Honky Tonk Heroes Album, an incredible collaboration with Billy Joe Shaver, probably my single favorite country album. Keith Richards did a duet with someone on "We Had it All", a beautiful "lost love" song off that album. Willie Nelson & Family Live at Lake Tahoe. Linda Ronstadt is such a talent. Ditto EmmyLou Harris.
For "light" music, the Carpenters were super talented. I love that Burt Bacharach / Dionne Warwick stuff: almost every song is a gem. Simon & Garfunkel, old Cher stuff... for instrumentals I like the Ventures and old James Bond soundtracks.
Classical: Claude DeBussy & Maurice Ravel are to classical music what the french impressionists were to painting. Brilliant innovators.

I can't really think of a single song that I wouldn't stand behind. I know what you mean by the question, but nowadays it's up to me: I got nothing to prove. One of my favoritye songs in the world is "State of Independence" by Donna Summer (after "Ooh La La" which I can say is my favorite song ever). "I Still havent' found what I'm looking for" I like very much and that is maybe the one I would feel a little weird about today, onl;y because U2 is in a period of high-uncoolness.

OK - we're talking about guilty pleasures here. I don't have a problem with openly saying that I like the following songs:
Cher - Believe Bon Jovi - In these Arms Los Del Rio - Macarena Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There Melanie C - Going Down David Hasselhoff - Looking For Freedom Mixed Emotions - You Want Love (Maria Maria)
But I listen to a lot of country music, too, which is really unpopular in my generation. To those who like the Crazy Frog: I don't, but you might want to check out The Art Of Noise, for it is mostly their methods that the Frog programmers use, only their songs are better.

I have heard better "techno". Anything is better than the Frog Song. It's just so dam funny! Puts a smile on my face. must admit i've never listened to it right thru.

I thought I was the only Stones fan who likes this one. Maybe we should form a support group. I'm so embarassed, but damn it, it is a good song. It's a total Avril Lavigne ripoff, and I must admit I like most of her music, too. Oh, the shame!
This is one of the funniest threads in a while! And since we're sharing these secrets, I have to admit that when I saw the thread, my first thought was "Dancing Queen" by Abba. I cannot explain WHY I have always liked that song, but maybe, like Mick said many years ago when asked why the US took to the Stones, maybe its "a chemical reaction" of some sort!
