Keith had at least 4 DA's: the first one used on the 1969 tour had a grey prototype humbucker pickup, but he did use a single coil pickup for some 1969 shows as well. He added a second DA for the 1970 tour, which he used for open G tuning. Both guitars where used for the 1971 tour as well, although it is sketchy how he used them -it seems mostly for standard tuning, with the open G tuned one as a backup for the Gibson Les Paul Custom. The DA with prototype pickup can be seen at Nellcote, and according to some sourced he gave the second one away around this time. There are pics of several DA pickups lying around on the basement as well. The Da, or both, was stolen at the Nellcote robbery, and he ordered at least two more for the 1972 tour. He used them for some early shows (probably up to San Francisco), but he did not like the production models (which were different to the 1969 models with much slimmer neck profiles), and did not use them up to 2014 or so, when he played a Japanese made DA on some occasions.

And also to xke38. While that is not the photo I saw it is another w/ two DA's.
The pic I saw was of Keith playing one DA ( I think it was at the show right after Mick had his belt stolen), because I tremember what Keith wore at that show. On a chair next to him leans another DA. Pretty sure Taylor is in the shot too.
Believe it or not your information about The Ampeg DA is very helpful to me . I know in the past I have been a critic but you are a treasure and I appreciate your hard work and great info .Thank you kindly .One more question if I may , are the separate vintage pickups widely available for the DA? and are they east to change out and which ones are critical to have ? Once again thank you kindly .Quote

Mathijs , in the photo above the DA resting against the wall with the capo and the guitar strap which pickup is this one please? Also is the DA a very heavy guitar (probably 9,10, 11 lbs?)Quote

Yes, both vintage and new ones, which are interchangeable, are readily available. There's 6 different ones, but the two to have are the Rock Treble (single coil, much like a P90) and the Sustain Treble (humbucker). I like the RT best for standard guitar playing and the ST for slide.
