How is it I've never heard of this group or this guy? I'm soon to be 59 years old, living in America.

Looked up some stuff, pretty good music. Lots of covers it seems.

Long John, same here but did know this song Pictures of Matchstick Men which was a hit in the US in 1968 (great song): [www.youtube.com]

Also remember them at Live Aid in 1985.

Check out Status Quo 1972-1980, almost no covers. You won't be disappointed.

On one hand I can see why they are so written off; they went from one of the UKs premier rock acts in the 70s to light entertainers over the last quarter century. Zero credibility except to those that loved them. The output declined seriously from mid eighties to early 2000s though they did remain a serious live draw.

are you talking about the Rolling Stones ?

Happy New Year everybody

LJS, I suggest checking out the 1977 Status Quo live album. Almost no covers although their music does sound a lot like Chuck Berry stuff IMHO so there is a familiarity to it. One of the best live albums of the 70's I think.

Always thought they would have made an excellent opening act for the Stones on the 75, 78 American tours. They really could get the crowd warmed up.

Thanks for posting!

It was surprising to hear how negative Rick was to the «Quo Light», as he called it. He really loved the FF reunion!

I find Francis Rossi's counting in Don't Waste My Time hilarious:

"After four...4" and off they are! grinning smiley

Hello,

Very sad that Parfitt is gone, a true rock and roll Jedi.

Quo is very well know here in Argentina where I am from.

Allways love this version of Dirty Water from Kebworth 1990.

Some amazing links there Dandelion; I have been revisiting lots of Quo documentaries and ProShots over last week also; the FF Final Fling in Dublin 2014 one I love in particular. Was at the show that night and it was an incredible evening. Long Live Quo!

Status Quo - a great British institution, who always delivered in a live setting, had a twinkle in their eye & never took themselves too seriously.

A rock band that knew how to roll. A rare gift.

Status Quo opened the 1968 NME-concert which the Stones closed!
Never knew! I just learned this reading the thread called "NME-concert 1968, why no film"?

A short fragment of footage of Quo is at the beginning of the clip.

edit:

1. Status Quo who sang (Pictures of Matchstick Men, Black Veils of Melancholy, and Gloria)

17. The Rolling Stones sang (Jumpin' Jack Flash, Satisfaction) it was announced to the audience that the Stones took part in the show completely at their own suggestion.

Dunno if it's been posted already, but this is one of my absolute (Quo a.o.) favourites: ...

"Movin' On" - from the album: "Quid Pro Quo" (2011)
