Not a big U2 fan, but, hey, let's be honest. 'Joshua Tree' was a good album. And their stuff included some interesting songs until 1991, IMO. But after "Achtung Baby", nothing but disappoitment...
It's a matter of taste, of course.

The '2 went from being the coolest band there was; here in 87 everyone either had Joshua Tree or was saving to purchase it; to the perceived lamest act around these days. Not sure exactly how that happened. From 87 to 93 really and the incredible Zoo TV era they really were sh*t hot. Zoo TV was the live show all of their peers even mythologised at the time.

Bono has a lot to do with their perception today; the very conservative output 2000 to present day obviously knocked them a bit also. The U2 of the millenium is as safe as you can get; the edge completely eradicated from their music - pun intended.

They may be a yawn or a bore or whatever to some people but at least they're still doing new albums... and playing songs from them on tour. They've not been a nostalgia act like the Stones have basically been since 2005.

It would be extra special if they announce this as a final Farewell Tour...the Good Riddance to U2 Tour.

Between roughly 1985-1993 they were a hell of band - drastic decline. If they're going to perform Joshua Tree in aggregate, would buy a ticket.

Maybe some special shows playing the JT album...

U2 has tried to be innovative throughout the years. Sometimes they failed (in my opinion). But if they're saying "special shows" I'm inclined to believe they're going to pull off something great, maybe club shows, special tickets, full album gigs or whatever they can come up with. I'm excited to see what's going to happen.
