I cannot judge about their choice, because I don't know enough about literature, but
I think it is an important breakthrough for popular art that it is recognized as being
a serious way to express oneself. Congratulations to mr Zimmerman.
I try my best
To be just like I am
But everybody wants you
To be just like them
They sing while you slave
And I just get bored

Fantastic news! And a great signal for popular music.
Congratulations, Bob, you've deserved it. You're such a great songwriter. Here's to you, Sir. Hope this prize is giving the best kicks to you.
Agree, JumpinJimF, Bob Dylan has written loads of phantastic lyrics, with Hurricane being among his finest, with a very fine and sophisticated sense of humour.
Cheers!

There must be some way out of here, ...

Is there anyone who's alive you would suggest giving the Nobel prize to?
In reality the only competition for Dylan could be someone who's eligible/alive.
Or would you suggest to skip this year's award as no one is good enough?Quote

Grotesque.
For what reason? Please explain.
He hasn´t wrote a single line to deserve this honour in the past three decades.
He´s written good lyrics in the 60s/early 70s, but even that wouldn´t qualify him. Nobel prize in literature for a singer/songwriter? Grotesque. Who´s next? Bruce Springsteen?
Like the Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes - just BS.
Remember Sean Connery winning an Oscar just for dying in "The Untouchables"? I almost did wet my pants with laughter when I heard "The winner is..."
... it´s all BS.

Maybe he could once write good lyrics but I watched ''A Simple Twist of Fate'' from Desert Trip and is surprised he wasn't booed off the stage.

Yes, but what do they think of his singing?

He is a writer. You may not agree with their decision, but to decry it as a farce is a farce in of itself.

Like I wrote earlier he is a plagiarist so for that reason only it should have been a "no-no-no" but obviously the "times they are a-changing" even in Oslo.

Wrong. But maybe in Stockholm. The prize is awarded by the Swedish Academy (founded in 1786 by King Gustav III) which is situated in Stockholm.

I am not a passionate Dylan fan, but he deserved the Nobel Prize!
Therefore I say with all my heart:
CONGRATULATIONS!
