Peter Mansbridge of the CBC has done an interview with Gord Downie, which airs tonight at 10:00 Toronto time on The National, or can later be watched on line here: [www.cbc.ca]
From the trailer, it looks to be powerful stuff.

I never once heard TH on the radio in the States. There was a Canadian tv show that I used to watch--must be at least 15-20 years ago--and there was this great song that they played during the closing credits. So I taped an episode so that I could pause it and read what song it was and what band: Blow at High Dough, the Trajically Hip. So I bought the CD with that song on it: Up to Here. Great album, really enjoy it. Knew nothing about the band, not even that they are Canadian, just really like that album. So sad to learn the news about Downie's illness. So all you Canadian TH fans, which of their other albums should I buy? I will only buy one or two, so please don't tell me to buy them all. Let me know your recommendations. Thanks. And peace to Downie and the band.

I have no idea where to post this...
Tonight, I went to Massey Hall to see Blue Rodeo, a pretty fine Canadian band that I've liked for years and only seen live once, years ago. I was third row.
The Sadies opened and were a lovely surprise. Jimmy Bowskill is playing with BR now - he is the kid whom Jeff Healey discovered and mentored when he was about 12 years old. He played at Healey's memorial in 2008. Gord Pinsent was sitting nearby, Gordon Lightfoot was escorted past me backstage near the end of the show... Just before the encore, everyone stood up and the entire hall sang Hasn't Hit Me Yet, and I found myself standing at front of stage.
Lovely two song encore then...they introduced Gord Downie and the place exploded. He came out, with The Sadies, and they all sang Lost Together, as did everyone in the place. They have all clearly known each other for years, and adore each other. So grateful to see Gord Downie (and Lightfoot, and Pinsent...) again. I was in tears leaving the hall.
Oh yeah...random Stones moment. For some reason, they played the first half of England's Newest Hitmakers between The Sadies and Blue Rodeo. I think I was the only one quietly singing along.
So much for one night. Very grateful to have been there.

Sorry you missed it, TF. Hope you enjoyed your visit, and that it wasn't too cold. Temp droped yesterday, we're breaking out the fleece-lined bras today.

Mr Jimmy
Such a cool story STG!!
I am a Brit that has close ties to Canada, and I understand how important the Tragically Hip are to the nation. One of my many visits, back in '98 was at the time of the 'Phantom Power' album, and I remember the lead single really well. I heard it again a few years later in London, at the Maple Leaf bar on Canada Day. Great times!!

Love to know more about your course, shattered.
The CBC is re-broadcasting the Hip's last concert this Saturday at 8pm Toronto time. Not sure if it will be available on line, but wouldn't be surprised.
