According to Zentgraf they played the William Morris Hall six times between August 4 and December 5, 1962 each time without Bill or Charlie.

Looking nice -
"every Wed." sounds a bit different from "6 times between August 4 & December 5" (cfr. the Zentgraf reference)... But still: it looks genuine enough.

Anyway: too low-res for me. Need higher resolution.

Thanx for adding, though!

That phone number rang on Stu's desk at work, of course. There wasn't one at Edith Grove.

Unlikely to have been Stu's office at ICI. The GER dialing code was for Soho whereas Stu's phone number at work was VIC 4444, a Victoria number. ICI's offices at the time were in Millbank. [www.rhaworth.myby.co.uk]
Stu was threatened with the sack if he continued to allow his phone number to be used.
This advert gives a slightly different phone number.

You know? I was wondering about that same thing, too. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out Curious, too, about the structure of phone numbers in those days. What does the "GER" stand for? I vaguely know, from movies & television series, that old phone numbers were a combination of words (names) & numbers. Never knew, though, what these names stood for, or referend to. Were these some kind of area codes (district or
neighborhood references)? Or was it a refrence to the actual subscriber?

Thanx a milion -

I'm going there (now called the Red Room) on Friday night for what may be the last ever night of the Ealing Blues Club. Ben Waters' playing there with special guests.
I'll have a look and see if they've got this poster up anywhere and take some photos of it if they have.

Cheers,

It was never a poster. It was an advert placed in Jazz News.

The pictures of those Jazz News ads are are probably more or less life size, not shrunk from a bigger original, so that's probably as hi res as you'll get.

I'll be there too. Hoping that Ben Waters and his friends at the Ealing Blues Festival are on a mission to revive the venue!

I notice that only one of the ads carries the admission price to the club, 4 or 5 shillings - in old English money before it went decimal - That would 20p or 25p in todays money. A new mini-car at the time was about £500. Makes our rent at Edith Grove sound expensive now - £!6 per week or £4 each.

The GER phone code -Gerrard- was for the West End area.

People,
In general: thanx for all the feedback - and do keep 'em coming!
I'm a sucker for these 'antique' ads;
they also represent a quintessential, and rather 'romantic' part of Rolling Stones history I'd say,
and obviously they open quite a few doors in our heads...

This thread makes me wanna ..."collect them all"!

And I remember thinking (& suggesting here) earlier, in a previous thread a couple of months ago: (some of) these would make great T-shirts.
In fact, I'm gonna experiment on that with the ones I have, I think.
