Tanking Tulsa Date Shows Springsteen Using Floor Pricing on Tour

by Dave Clark
February 16, 2023

These are unsold resale tickets. They were already purchased once at full retail price.

Not true. There are many as-yet-unsold "Standard Admission" tickets along with "Verified Resale" tickets. Most of the unsold tickets are behind/side stage.

I counted 50-75 “blue dots” on floors and lower level, which I assume are Bruce Inc./promoter holds that were dropped, and a couple dozen lower level sides. Didn’t count the rear stage ”blue dots” but looked like maybe 200-300 or so. (Obviously, you don’t know whether promoter has released entire inventory of unsold seats on TM.) Is that “many”? Beats me…

Moral of the story may be that selling tickets for a show on a Tuesday night in Tulsa may be a slog…And probably not a good idea for the amateur ticket scalpers to dive in with rear stage seats and buck that trend. But, sure, it’s all Springsteen’s fault.

whatever who's fault it was and who's to blame.
Miscalulations happen but on the other hand if 5-10% of the tickets are not being sold doesn't indicate an economic failure.
Springsteen's only (and maybe worst) problem is bad press – first the dynamic pricing thing and now unsold tickets. Both is bad for his reputation as a popular working class hero

Sure the Boss might be fine, but some of his fans who aren't fully aware of the ins and outs of the ticket selling machinery might feel differently about it all - like they're being scammed again.

If some fans can't tell a resale ticket from a box office face value ticket, let alone a dynamically priced "Platinum" ticket, it's on them. It's not that hard.

(I really don't see how resales would be a "scam". Doesn't take much Googling to see you can get in the door in Tulsa for basically free. And again, if you're the one holding tickets for resale, you are free to take your business anywhere else, you don't have to do it thru TM.)

Yeah, TM makes it pretty easy to weed out Platinums and resales with the filters button. You’d think you’d figure out the process if you want to spend hundreds on tickets. Or not…

No Jake in Austin (covid)

Nils is back.

Covid seems to go round in the band. I wonder how long it'll take until Springsteen gets it

Yes...the Covid is a major factor and theme for this current tour (along with the upset fans over the pricing fiasco) - more so than any other current band on tour as far as I know.
Wondering who will be missing for tonight's show in Kansas City...hopefully not the Boss himself!!! And wondering how ticket sales are going?
If we're counting resale, looks like plenty available on TM for those who are interested, and no doubt much cheaper ones on other resale sites.
Then again, it's a gamble not knowing who will or who won't be in the band...I would have been bummed to attend a show and then to find out Nils or Stevie was missing.

I was talking about the cheap resale tickets affected by the price floor as mentioned in the article. The $6 tickets. I haven't looked at the show in months but entirely believable the show itself isn't close to sold out.

Tulsa will probably be getting fewer shows after their Pearl Jam and Bruce sales. Pathetic.

Tanking Tulsa Date Shows Springsteen Using Floor Pricing on Tour

by Dave Clark
February 16, 2023

I finished the article. What first intrigued and then annoyed me as I came to grips with the write-up is, Ticketmaster US doesn’t seem to allow the customers to resell spare tickets not only higher than face value (I can fully support this) but also BELOW face value on the company’s official resale system. In other words, there is a floor-cum-cap that is face value. I have never come across something like this before, including Ticketmaster UK.
On a number of secondary market platforms, many resellers offer discount prices to draw buyers’ attention to them in order to shift the excess tickets, which serves as benefits for both sides. On TM US, you aren’t allowed to do that if I understand correctly.

No wonder many clever resellers go elsewhere for the speedy trade.

This is one of the top arenas in the country. I wouldn't worry too much about it. This isn't the first show there to not sell out or bottom out on the secondary. Keep in mind with the end stage setup, it's more like 13-14,000. On top of that, most arena shows, everywhere, don't sell out.

Also Oklahoma is a massive market for mid-size and casino level shows.

And Springsteen / U2 / Stones are more the exception. Most bands are on tour, always, and need places to play.

Well I wasn't chosen as one of the verified fans who had first dibs on tickets. I just happened to check ticketmaster today and I saw tix were on sale for Vancouver but there was only a handful of platinum tickets left which were very expensive.

1) Do NOT worry. There will be drops. So far, each and every show on this tour saw face value tickets drop.

2) resale prices will come down as well, after the dust settles. Vancouver isn't MSG.

You'll get your ticket.

Verified Fan is just a way to create a sense false exclusivity and gauge demand - therefore driving the initial "Platinum" prices up.

I was verified...got in an hour before start time...and of course had 2,000+ in line in front of me.

All GA were gone, all good floor seats were gone. They were all $400+ fees (so...$525?), too rich for my blood.

Not a big deal, but I won't try to see Bruce again, this sucked.

I hope you're right. He hasn't played here since 2012 so there's huge demand to see him. I'm kind of hoping that since there's a big break before this date, he might add a second show the night before. I'm actually surprised he's not playing BC Place. I mentioned previously that Elton did 2 shows there, Coldplay is doing 2 shows, even the Chili Peppers are playing there next month.

Got tix for Bruce in Syracuse. Not bad at all really. A little over $100/ticket. Wish they were all that reasonable!!! Looking at GNR in Hershey and it'd be something similar.

Has anyone sat behind or on the side of the stage this tour and if so, how’s the sound and the visual? Are there projection screens facing the back or side? Does he play to those in the back too? Thanks!

I was curious about these $200 plus fees seats BEHIND the stage. Just because you can get someone to give you their money does not mean you should.

It's an open stage. There are screens at the side & back. Also, PA in the back. & Bruce does play to the people sitting behind the stage. I think Out in the Street is the main song for that this tour.

I hope he adds another show. I signed up for verified fans and wasn't even given a chance to buy a ticket, yet scalpers are already flipping nosebleeds for 200+ on ticketbasterd.. not sure how the verified fan is preventing scalping.

@crholmstrom thanks!

I used to sleep outside at The Flip Side record store in the 70s before they randomized your place in line, and sometimes that ended up being more fun than the concert.

I also used to sell bootleg tshirts at various venues around Chicago when I was in High School (best job ever), and when the Stones announced their 75 tour, we slept outside Chicago Stadium to get direct access to the venue tickets. Between the hookers, drug dealers and drunks, that was enough material for a screenplay...and luckily street gangs and gun violence hadn't taken over the south side of Chicago back then. I was near the front of the line and got upper balcony, which offered a nice view of what still is the coolest concert stage I've ever seen. Broke my cherry and have seen 60+ shows since.

Over the decades I've seen ticketron become ticketmaster and venue's mostly stop selling tickets.. I saw the scalping market go from one agency in the loop on Randolph St to concert goer's hustling their spare tickets or trading them to me for a tshirt, to the "anyone got a spare ticket" locals who made a cardboard sign and stood a few blocks from the venue and then bought tickets below face and flipped them at or above face. I scored many great seats when ticket sales were available by phone and if you called early and kept the operator on the line until the exact time the sale started, you scored great seats via credit card. Then multiple scalper brokers figured that out and killed that awesome opportunity, and then ticket sales went on line and the broker market exploded and now its evolved into ticketmaster being the seller, and the scalper, with some remaining brokers and aps like stubhub that allll will likely fold if ticketmaster keeps making changes to put those guyss out of business, because they own the market and can.

If I want to go see a show now I only will go if its not a hassle, and I definitely try and avoid getting that crummy feeling like I got taken advantage of or ripped off. Some artists I'll pay well to see because I know what I'm going to get, the Stones being one. I usually only pay the higher prices if I'm close enough to see the expresssions on their faces, or I pay $20 at the last minute and don't care where I am. Lucky Dip is a cool option.

I've been watching tickets for the past 10 days for Bruce Springsteen in Portland tonight. I saw him once in the early 80s at the LA Sports Arena, had mid floor standing room and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm a fan, but he's not in my top 10, but that live show was in the top 10 I've seen, so I have been intrigued to see him again, but for different reasons, haven't. I was going to try and see his NY theater residency, but when I saw I could watch it on TV, I waited. I'm glad I did. It was intimate, and I like intimate shows. I've seen the Stones at the Double Door Bar in Chicago and at the Filmore in SF, at the Wiltern and L'Olympia in Paris...I've seen many bands in small theaters and I love the intimacy, but I didnt care for some of the arrangements of his songs in NYC and I'm not sure I liked him as much after seeing him talk so much.

I liked the rocker I saw sweating and passionate on stage in LA, and that's what I'm hoping to see tonight in Portland, so now that I've committed to go, I'm playing the last minute ticket game.

I've been watching three web sites for 10 days, and currently, 10 hours before the show:

TickPik, advertises "no service fees" and their lowest currently is $82 in the 3rd level, halfway up that section and 3/4 back. Pit is $1237 and Row 1 behind the pit is $1282. Lower corner back stage is $266. Lots behind stage for $100-$200

StubHub has about 2000 tickets available. Their lowest is $68 in the 3rd level bacck stage, but for $90 you can get a comparable seat to the $82 3rd level in TickPik. Both Stub Hub and TickPik floor seats are $300-$500 range, plus some $1000+ pricces by the people who will stay home if someone is desperate and rich enough to buy their tickets - Lots behind stage $100-$200

Ticketmaster is similar to the others with the cheapest at $79 3rd deck back stage and $99 3rd deck far corner, but their app is designed better and it's easier to navigate and compare seats and value. Their floor seats are also in the $300-$500 range, but row 1 is $600 versus $1200 on TickPik for row 1, and on TickPik you cant see where exacctly the seats are, which you can in ticketmaster. Lots behind stage $100-$200

Hoping peoople get desperate and we see some front of stage decent seats frop in the $100's and if not, I'll be behind the stage, drinking $16 beers.

I'll share how we did after the show...

CHELSKEITH

I never ever in my whole life payed more than face value for a ticket and I never will (and I never sold a ticket for more than I payed although I sometimes added the ebay transaction fee (which I had to pay) but I never made any money by selling a ticket).

Great show in Portland tonight. Ticketmaster dropped row 1 behind stage so paid $200 face and felt like I was on stage with the band.

Watched the apps and they didn’t change really from my earlier post, except the pit dropped to $450.

Bruce was closer to the early 80s LA Sports Arena Bruce than the NY Theater Netflix Bruce. This was a rock show and he delivered. No breaks between most songs, keeping the show tempo going… 1..2..3..4

I'm glad you enjoyed the show & got in for sort of realistic money. I'm sitting 4 rows behind the stage Monday. I paid $250 for the pair on presale. I noticed he dropped the Commodores song, no big loss. I'd rather hear I'm on Fire any day!

Here’s the encore, minus the final song. I’ll add a few more to my YouTube channel later today.

It’s so inspirational to wake up feeling my age and then think back to last night, or nights where I’ve seen the Stones and remember these guys are 10-15+ years older than I am. Who thought rock stars would be health influencers as they grew old?

I guess for some it’s not such a drag…
