Sweet! Is there any advantage to it, though? Soundwise or whatever, I mean? Not just the show-off value :E
It may not be all that difficult but from watching Keith I can see it doesn't make anything easier either.
I guess it doesn't matter so much when it's playback but it's charmingly funny in some clips -
there's a YCAGWYW around somewhere where he nearly drops the thing and keeps laughing

From a musicians point of view there is a massive difference. TO do it live the whole band would have to get a good take and it would time and money wise take much more. A simple playback with voice overs costs little in comparison and as discussed above, allows for a lot more posing and general shenanigans.

That I understand - what I was trying to ask was whether there's any advantage
to playing an acoustic without a strap, apart from the show-off value.

Sorry if I muddied the waters with my reply...
As I think about your question, the only advantage I can think of would be that, if one was used to playing without a strap, they'd always be prepared to play regardless of whether a strap was available. The only time I like to play without a strap is when I'm seated. In fact, I actually prefer it that way when I'm seated.
C'mon mudbone... Me & with sssoul are looking forward to your reply!
Peace,
Mr DJA

Keith *loves* to play acoustic standing up with no strap.
Not so much anymore, but watch him from the 60s through 90s.
I'm pretty sure he has all the straps he wants and then some,
but he removes them, eschews them, gives them dirty looks and does without them.
I guess he simply enjoys the challenge :E

Well...I like to sit down with an acoustic guitar..I think Keith does too.
Then..sometimes..when things are cooking..you get the urge to jump up and move and stuff.
So you do...and it's not that hard for the duration of a song. Longer will be challenge..but by then you've already got your yaya's out and you looked cool doing it.
spontaneous kind of thing

Loving cup is simply a great track.

There's a song from Montreux that gives you a great insight into how
Taylor was a big part of their process. No one can deny the process
because here it is:
Can anyone dispute what's going on here? This song typifies one way in
which Taylor was very much a Stone. No one can say what Jagger was
thinking. One can reasonably assume what Watts was thinking because on
more than one interview Watts gushes over Taylor's playing.

I don't think there's any advantage to it. The YCAGWYW is from one of the Ed Sullivan appearances, I believe, correct?
