I agree 100% (SFM was a blast, last year...)
I just find it funny how people over here react if 'a' warhorse is NOT played... smoking smiley

P.S.: I think it was ommted just for the curfew, in Dublin. Just guessin' though.

Think this is quite likely, was told by some of the security at Croke Park yesterday that the venue is extremely strict about the curfews (which also explains why they walked out at 8.30 sharp, and why the opening act was so short)

I know I am walking on thin ice here, but Street Fighting Man I find bearable on the studio album and unbearable in any live version (yes, even Get Yer Ya Ya's). It's just too much I-IV bashing and the voice just doing the same notes as the guitar. It's almost grunge and certainly not groovy.

But I know nobody will agree with me on this.

I reckon that's a good description to be fair and was thinking the same at Amsterdam. But saying that i would prefer it to miss you.

I don't disagree...... it was one of the highlights of the Barca '17 show for me.

BUT you have other threads on here complaining there are too many warhorses spinning smiley sticking its tongue out. So they're allowed warhorses, but only if they are the right warhorses.

Then again, SFM has never really been a warhorse (although the song deserves to be one) smiling smiley

I like the warhorses. They are playing them well.

The problem is but that the songs are made 50% the song itself and 50% jamming at the end of the song.

For example Brown Sugar was 3.10 minutes in the '70 or even in '82 and nowdays it takes min. 5 minutes... and it is not because of tempo smiling smiley
Same for Miss you, Tumbling Dice, HTW, Gimmie Shelter.

But back to the original topic:
I hope Mick or Chuck read our request smiling smiley and they will play SFM beginning from the next show !

Brown Sugar was 4:16 at the marquee in 1971.
Miss You was 8:46 in 1978.

So, maybe they haven't really changed around as much as we thought they had? smiling smiley

Yeah, I hear you, mate smiling smiley

If they wanted to, they could have placed 2-3 more songs in set, instead of the jamming. About SFM: I think they all enjoy it rolling a long a bit in the ending here thumbs up

I really hope it comes back too, Keith was fantastic on this one last time out, the energy SFM has was missed last night.
Drop IORR if they must, no comparison between how they play these two numbers, iorr is so old and tired, whereas SFM feels rejuvenated fresh and exciting.

A show without SFM is somewhat incomplete imo.
Studio version is in my top 5 all time greatest.

Yes! Bring it back and let it stay! We need more war horses! There is only about 13 by now.

That said, the last time I heard it them playing it - Hyde Park 2013 - it was the hottest and best performed song of the night (with "Rambler" with Taylor).

Actually it is rather odd that the song doesn't have a war horses status, since so many other song have that - it used to be their closing number and highlight song for years, one of the true classics - actually one of those songs reaching the 'war horses' status when there was not a concept yet - but then something happened. It alawys seem to work pretty fine as far as the crowd reaction goes, so that cannot be the reason to 'neglect' it. Jagger just doesn't like it?

Street Fighting Man has become the Money song, like Midnight Rambler became the Money song a few years back, IMO

i dont understand why some stones songs in concert are long.

if they cut the longer versions they could introduce more songs and not have to extend the concert, so not as if they have to work longer.

in theory they could easily fit in a 30 song gig into 2 hours.

and also without having to dig to deep into lesser or unknown songs.

this set list would work imo.

1.start me up
2.doom and gloom
3.rough justice
4.its only rock and roll
5.ruby tuesday
6.wild horses
7.shattered
8.neighbours
9.miss you
10.i wanna be your man
11.routte 66
12.flip the switch
13.cant you hear me knocking
14. she was hot
15.live with me
16.before they make me run
17.little t and a
18.the worst.
19.connection
20.lets spend the night together
21.emotional rescue
22.tumbling dice
23.gimme shelter
24.midnight rambler
25.paint it black
26.satisfaction
27.sympathy for the devil
28.honky tonk woman
29.brown sugar
30.jj flash

mostly warhorse anyway and a few other well know semi warhorses.

in theory they could easily fit in a 30 song gig into 2 hours.

But not in praxis with 'Cant You Hear Me Knocking' and 'Midnight Rambler' in the same Setlist.

30 songs in 120 mins would mean only 4 mins per song without any break.

The Stones are now average 75 years old and they're no DJ-Party-Set ....

"the money song" good point there. Makes me wonder if this is really the last tour in Europe, why not go all out? I believe their tactics are to keep us wanting more so why not bring it home hard if it's really the end? Regardless I hope there will be some great setlist surprises in the concerts ahead. I might add it's a luxury to have this quandary in 2018. I feel pretty lucky.

talking of setlists.

ive just been in the site www.setlist.com and not sure how accurate it is but it does seem someone has taken a few hundred hours to compile all the info and it makes for very interesting reading.

heres a few bits of info.

you got me rocking has been played 442 times out a possible 664 concerts. so it has an appearance rate of around 67%. which is incredibly high compared to many better songs. some of the great stuff of the 60,s and 70,s has been played less than 100 times out of a possible 1000 to 2000 gigs, obviously with a low appearance rate. you got me rockings never been a classic imo.

also, the album that has been represented the most on a single tour according to the site is voodoo lounge. with their songs being played totalling over 600 times in that tour. the next is some girls at just under 400. so obviously the 1994-95 tour was longer than most, had more songs per gig than most and a high percentage of voodoo lounge songs.

has anyone seen this site and if so, what do you make of the stats.

its really interesting for anyone whos not seen it.

I've always considered SFM a warhorse.

Unfortunately YGMR is the most recent warhorse.

The Dublin set list is boring. It just gets back to them being a greatest hits act, which is fine, so there's really no point in a new LP, especially considering if they indeed do one they'll only play 1 or 2 songs from it anyway.
