Time and again I say that I do notunderstand why they did not play Lady Jane more often. It is a well-known ballad, and it sounded great back in 2012.

I think they've done it twice in the last decade (behind very closed doors), but why don't they play it a little more frequently?

I know there are dozens of songs in the 'why don't they play..?' file, but JMI is pretty well known, easy to play, and occasionally popped up in the song vote list (suggesting they are actually still capable of playing it).

So why not?!

Was anyone there at the Echoplex or the other recentish airing of it? How did it sound?

Maybe much doesn't want to give up 5 minutes' worth of royalties...

They did it in Detroit in 2015.

Maybe they listened to the terrible version on "Shine a light" and decided to avoid such a mess.

Why don't they play [If I Was] Dance instead of Miss You? who knows.

I've been lucky to get this twice in the Motor City, in 1997 and 2015, and of course they did Ain't Too Proud to Beg in 2005... when I didn't go up!!

Any cover is always a treat when The Stones dig deep for a gem!

Just My Imagination is not that much of a song, not worthy of playing IMO.

I'd much rather hear Heartbreaker, Stray Cat Blues, If You Can Rock Me or something newer like Don't Stop.

It's one of their better covers and should be played, but the fact they're already doing some blues covers probably has something to do with them not playing it.

Don't Stop over Imagination? You gotta be kidding me. One of the worst songs that they've ever done imo, its the definition of wishy washy.

The Hampton '81 version is perfection, the guitar interplay is so on point.

They didn't even play it in concert in Amsterdam 98, where there were five shows. But they rehearsed it loud.

I saw them do it in Detroit in '15 and it was a little sad. Like everything they played it with tremendous competence but Imagination used to be the song where Keith and Woody would get into each others faces and keep digging and digging to take the groove higher and high and thus demonstrate their totally unique interplay. The art of weaving if you will.

That night in Detroit Keith just sort of stared off into the distance and strummed his part indifferently. '15 was also the tour where Keith's signature riffs were turned up when he'd hit them. I don't know if that's how they're doing it now but I imagine it is.

The more recent more piano-driven versions just don't work. Imagination peaked 1978-81.

The 1981 Hampton version has some of the best guitar jams the Stones have ever done. It is an absolutely brilliant version.

Absolutely. However, if they could pull that off nowadays is more than questionable. Even back then, in 1981 and 1982 in particular, I've personally witnessed quite a few versions that were borefests par excellence, simply dragging endlessly, making you wish that they finish the song more sooner than later.
