"Wow! The auction of the objects from the exhibition The Rolling Stones - Unzipped was a great success. With bids from France, the Netherlands, Germany and England the objects were sold. The replica of the Edith Grove appartement where The Stones used to live in their hayday was sold, also the large tongue sculpture, the gold record and the cardboard dolls were popular. The auction raised a total of 23,320 euros, which the museum will invest in new exhibitions.
It’s your last chance to see the exhibition in the Groninger Museum until Sunday January 21, 2024. Then the exhibition ends and will not be shown anywhere else."

APARTMENT STONES IS MOVING FROM GRONINGER MUSEUM TO DE SUIKERZIJDE
One of the most discussed objects of the Rolling Stones exhibition Unzipped in the Groninger Museum was the fully furnished replica of the filthy two-room apartment where Mick Jagger and Keith Richard lived as teenagers. And where they founded the Stones together with Charlie Watts, who visited regularly.
The Groninger Museum closed the successful exhibition on January 21, 2024 with an auction of many objects from the exhibition. The apartment with all the trimmings was also auctioned. De Suikerzijde won the auction in that auction.

Oh, too bad you missed the exhibit in person. You would have loved it. But what does visiting "via your posts" mean?
And what did you think about the online version of Unzipped? Did you like it? I never tried that, I guess I was just waiting out on the real thing, which I finally ended up doing last September.

The rooms would probably be more suitable for Ulli Schroeder's Stones Fan Museum in Lüchow, Germany, although it is already bursting at the seams.
But maybe he'll build an extension.

Hey bustabutton,
The locals can probably fill you in on the details regarding places to eat and drink. Theres a festival in Groningen this week and plenty of cool bands everywhere. Expect a bit less availability in terms of hotel rooms.
On another note, given that the exhibition is closing this weekend, THREE of the IORR-authors will be present at the Unzipped on Thursday afternoon (January 18th)!
Erwin Hoetjes - "Tourbook 72"
Hendrik Mulder - "Time fades away"
Geir Hørnes - "The Curious Chronicles of Villa Nellcote"
We will enter the exhibition around 1300 + try to behave + meet up with friends afterwards. Everyone is invited.

End of an Era.
Geez how fun it was in Groningen this weekend. Yet, it was also a strangely melancholic thing to walk through the Unzipped exhibition for the last time.
I kept thinking, «Will I be able to see all these great things presented together like this, ever again?»
Having been in London with DandelionPowderman during the opening week in 2016 and now the closing in Groningen six years later, I must say the exhibition has managed to stay classy, impressive and relevant throughout its long journey.
Shout out to Erwin Hoetjes, Hendrik Mulder, Leo, Richard, Roderick and Erwin-the-drummer for discussions, drinks and dining!

The Groninger Museum should offer the online version occasionally again, e.g. when the Stones are on tour.

My daughter bought me the puzzle in the white box. Most of the puzzle is a picture of black vinyl, which was the most impossible thing to figure out ever....until I tried (and failed) to vote in the Brits poll )
