GOMPER GOMPER GOMPER or CHILD OF THE MOON smoking smileysmoking smiley

Re: Opener

If you are talking for a STADIUM...with the lights...the anticipation...the drama...SYMPATHY...they can milk that opening with the tape loops, screen images and lights for 2 minutes as the crowd Hoo-Hoo's! they time away...

Or START ME UP...KIDDING of course...If I never hear that song done again it would be a blessing...

But outta left Field? Hmmmm...I would say...If You Cant Rock Me..it has been rehearsed so much, they must be able to play it......or Hot Stuff...then the sophomore song...an oldie...Around & Around...then business as usual

I'm dreaming they'll open with Sweet Virginia.

Imagine Keith comes on stage wearing an acoustic. The crowd is thinking "WTF???". Mick shortly follows, and struts up to the mic carrying his harmonica. The song starts up, then during the choruses everyone in the stadium is singing along to "got to scrape the shit right off your shoes". Classic and total unprecedented. It would send chills down my spine. Although One Hit would be good, too.

I've thought something like this would be great for the last 3 tours if they started like this.

Each show starts out with a different sit down jam...think of western grip for 2015 with whatever instramentation dictating the song, acoustic and harp works into SV or love in vain. Harp and twin guitars turns into midnight rambler, three guitars evolves into fingerprint file...the friggin choices are endless and the true fans would go nuts, or maybe I am!!

I have always been of the mindset that they should open with a warhorse. Kicking things off with Start Me Up, Street Fighting Man, JJFlash etc, starts off the show on a great high note. Personally I'd rather see them do a full show of deep cuts, but its not going to happen. Despite my tastes, I am all for doing a recognized megahit as the starting number.

I guess since the tour was to be a nod to Sticky Fingers then the opener should
Be Brown Sugar - being the album opener. However, if they play all of Sticky Fingers than Brown Sugar should be included in that set.

I think you'll see the return of Rough Justice to the stage. They brought back OOC last tour, and can they seriously keep treating YGMR as if its one of the warhorses? Wait, don't answer that.

They need to have some representation that they've recorded music since '81 besides YGMR and D&G. OOC was a nice addition let's hope they keep it too.

Not counting Keith's set, when was last time anything off SW was played live? '02?

I see others have already suggested Brown Sugar, and given the Sticky Fingers theme this would seem to be an obvious choice. Perhaps too obvisous, but none-the-less it's my call as well.

I agree with all the talk of it being a Sticky Fingers Tour open this thing up with Brown Sugar just like the Album. And then it maybe corny and expected but I think the Stones should end every show from here on out with The Last Time.

Luxury is the most underrated song in their collection. I agree- it should be played on this tour.

Re: Zip Code Tour Setlists

Rather than studio albums, how about if they varied the set lists based on their live albums:

Got live (album and ep)
Ya-Yas
Love You Live
Still Life
Flashpoint
etc.

Would shake it up a bit and it's tunes they have felt comfortable playing live before so should also feel comfortable now. At least it wouldn't be same old, same old and they could tack on any unused warhorses at the end.

I have a spreadsheet that does a random set list choosing from the officially released catalog. Haven't done one yet this year. Here's the first one, just for your amusement. Guaranteed it will be totally ridiculous. Some songs can appear twice. Maybe Keith started the wrong song or something...

Hitch Hike
Short and Curlies
Try a Little Harder
Already Over Me
Thief in the Night
You Gotta Move
Hey Negrita
As Tears Go By
Lady Jane
Everything is Turning to Gold
Jigsaw Puzzle
Jiving Sister Fanny
Hand of Fate
Dead Flowers
I Just Want to Make Love to You
Break the Spell
Little T&A
Memory Motel
I Just Wanna See His Face
High and Dry

(note: for amusement purposes only)

Decided to run another one, just for you Gomper fans:

It's Not Easy
Love in Vain
Gomper
Time Waits for No One
Streets of Love
Monkey Man
Winter
I Go Wild
Yesterday's Papers
Blinded by Rainbows
All Sold Out
Down Home Girl
Miss You
Hold Back
The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man
Before They Make Me Run
Oh Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin')
How Can I Stop?
Till the Next Goodbye
Jump on Top of Me

Please no! I agree the pyro will make an appearance but SMU is such an overdone and predictable opener it should be shelved forever, imo.

Mick does ask "What do you want us to play?" on his Twitter feed so its very likely he is watching this thread. So if our opinions do matter I'd like to suggest:

Heartbreaker
Let it Loose
2000 Light Years from Home
All of Sticky Fingers
Rocks Off
Torn and Frayed
Loving Cup
Monkey Man

peace
