Mick Taylor saw this band live at the time, staying in the same Hotel. He instantly became a fan. Paganini on Violin.

Awesome! Didn't know that. I'm also a huge fan the Mahavishnu Orchestra!!
Correction;
Jan Hammer - elec. keyboard, synth
Jerry Goodman - violin (not Paganini)

The Mahavishnu Orchestra fit into the seventies. This kind of music slipped totally out of time - it does not work anymore today. Of course this is my opinion only - if people still enjoy it, it is fine. Even if one is critical towards the Stones I have the impression that their albums aged better than the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Stones are a pop band, and the general rules on pop compositions haven't changed that much over the times, you always have an alternation of verses and choruses with some spice on top. Of course different instruments, sounds, recording techniques, but if you are into modern pop music, you don't need to use too much brain to understand a 60 pop hit.
Fusion, on the other hand, has nothing to do with contemporary music. But I am quite sure that if you have a well educated ear, you can still enjoy it today, like you can enjoy loads of great music that is not "pop"-
Problem, now and then, is "education" ...

Of course you can call anybody who has a different taste or another opinion uneducated. Problem, now and then, is style.Anyway, have a nice day, Sir Liddas.

I read on iorr that Jagger and Taylor got a long very well with songwriting. It's a pity that that collaboration ended and that Taylor wasn't more credited for his songwriting.
The band kind of lost its lyrical touch when Taylor left.

I do not know if this has been noted, but this is a revised and updated site of a previous excellent MT site that was dormant for quite a while. Lots of information here.

Right. True - he is blamed.
Yet they've done a lot since Taylor with Ronnie. Starting in 1976 a total of 12 albums.
Anyone have anything relevant to add to this thread in regard to now instead of what Taylor did in 1974? The thread title says "right now".

I have: Logistically over the past years, they have done less. What matters, quality or quantity? A matter of taste, dumbo.

What? I’ve never heard Richards being blamed lol
I’ve heard Taylor got sick of Jagger promising and not delivering songwriting credits. Nothing to do with Richards who didn’t write with either of them at the time. They jammed out tunes in the studio, but weren’t writing together.
I never heard Jagger pestering him for that.Where is that coming from?Quote

There are many versions said about why he left. Keith pushing him out because of worry that the two Mick's would eclipse with writing wise during the era, Taylor getting tired of not getting credit, Taylor's drug addiction, Taylor believing he could be bigger as a solo act, Jagger pestering him for sex all the time, etc etc
We'll probably never know for sure
