I am shocked and absolutely gutted. Had the very great pleasure of seeing him live 3 times in the last few years and was blown away every time. What a voice, what a style, what a groove. I will leave my hat on, forever. It was NOT high time he went. Sh*t.

Oh gosh, no. Another unexpected loss. This is yet more sad news and especially so for his loved ones at this time of year. Joe Cocker's gritty vocals were his unforgettable trademark, not to mention those expressive hand movements. RIP.

This is really sad. I used to watch Wonder Years, with his amazing version for With a Little Help From My Friends, and I'm sure there's a lot of people who grew up in the 80's (like me) who got to know him from this intro.

Loved his CD Unchain My Heart. Dunno why, just great sounding songs I guess.

But man, it's really starting to happen. Many of our musical heroes have finished their lives. We're all mortal, after all.

RIP, Joe Cocker.

WAY, WAY too many of these "RIP"'s lately. But, that is the generation many of us are from, so, though not totally unexpected, shocking nonetheless.

RIP Joe. A great, unique talent.

Every bar I walked into early seventies was playing his music: "With A Little Help From My Friends"-"Cry Me a River"-"High Time We Went" and others, Thanks for the music.

Saddened to hear, my personal favorite is "Feelin' Alright", really like that.

Carlito's way, the movie uses "You are so beautiful" in a very poignant way. Probably gave me a new appreciation of the song.

Him and Bobby Keyes will be jamming ferociously on The Letter.

I'm thinking at least Gary Brooker and Steve Winwood are still alive.

Damn. Sad for this loss. Who could ever replace that fine fellow in this world?

A great story about Joe:

Him and his band were touring Canada way back in 1976. I was just a young kid working on the family farm in Southern Alberta and we heard there was this rock band going to perform a free concert for the locals. The community was tiny, maybe 800 people total in the two or three towns right on the Montana/Canada border.

Sure enough Joe and his band set up in a farmers field and played for hours. Really freaked out the conservative farm folks with his stage antics but us kids thought it was awesome. People talked about it for years. They gave out free t-shirts, and I wore mine for years ....something about The Declaration of Joe Cocker looking like a John Hancock signature from The Constitution.

Looking back on the affair, I'm guessing they had ulterior motives for stopping in this place and staying for 3 days. It was after all the last stop before an international border crossing and the band and crew likely had some substances they decided to stay and consume rather than throw away or risk problems with the always suspicious border police.

It was a grand affair in the end, sure made a huge impression on this kid and I'm thankful they stopped and rocked that wheat field. RIP Joe

peace
