I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Madeline Bell, who contributed backing-vocals to Joe's iconic rendition of With A Little Help From My Fiends. She mentioned what a pleasure it was to spend time in the studio with him.
Rest In Peace, Joe Cocker.
Oh, I always viewed 'Up Where We Belong' as a bit of a guilty pleasure. Well, I don't feel too much guilt right now. What a marvelous recording it is.
Horrible news. Joe Cocker was an incredible singer with such an emotional feel. Some people call it soul. He always had a tight band of musicians even on his first albums he had some of the best backing him up. He will truly be missed. Very sad indeed.
Joe Cocker Mad Dog and Englishman..............in the time a band had a lot of fun playing live....look at the backup singers how manay are there? and from 2.45 on ...1234.....
We will miss Joe to me he is one of the figures of Woodstock which will last forever in my mine. I was fortunate to be at Plattsburgh State U. for part of his 1970 Mad dogs an Englishmen tour which became part of album an dvd. That show has always been one of my favorites. When the show ended my friends an I were able to sneak into the locker room in which Joe,Bobby and leon were using. We were able to talk with them for about 5 Minutes before security noticed us.Before they could throw us out Bobby had convinced them we were only helping load equipment in the truck parked outside the lockerroom.what a night for a sixteen year old. God rest their souls.
Daily Beast.com has a fine selection of Joe Cocker videos on line under the title "Joe Cocker's Deep Cuts." Highly recommended...you'll recognize certain familiar faces in at least one of these.
I knew Joe fairly well, and I think he would be astounded at the outpouring of love for him this week. Very modest guy.
