I'm confused, do you want a list of favourite, or best albums ?

Best (studio) album for me is 'Metamodern Sounds in Country Music' by Sturgill Simpson. Stunning album.

Also enjoyed
Platinum (Miranda Lambert)
Melody Road (Neil Diamond)
Holy Ghost (Marc Ford)
Redeemer of Souls (Judas Priest)
Xscape (Michael Jackson)
The Outsiders (Eric Church)
Once More 'Round The Sun (Mastodon)
Lullaby... and the Ceaseless Roar (Robert Plant)
The Ceaseless Sight (Rich Robinson)
Phosphorescent Harvest (Chris Robinson Brotherhood)
1989 (Taylor Swift)
Reflections (Don Williams)
Our Year (Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison)
Blank Project (Neneh Cherry)

Still have to hear the new Run The Jewels, Garth Brooks, Bryan Ferry & Pink Floyd albums.

Gary Clark Jr released a great live album.
Stones, Dylan & McCartney released some great to brilliant (live) archive material.

Shocking: George Straits live album (autotune!).

Disappointing: U2, Prince, Billy Idol (well, half the album is ok, couldn't really expect more).

Is the new Lucinda Williams really that good? I saw her in concert in the late 90's but forgot all about her, guess I'll have to check that one out.

Shadooby - if you're a Lucinda W. fan, it's well worth checking out. She has always done quality work but some of her stuff can drag a bit. She somehow really raised her game on this one IMO - and obviously a few folks here agree.

Ah, forgot that one.

I know it's fashionable to hate her, but I found 1989 to be a thoroughly enjoyable slice of throwback '80s synth pop.

I don't lump her in with the rest of the pop starlets out there...she always seem to rise above the rest.

Well said, truly evident on the recent AMA's in comparison to her contemporaries (minaj, grande, j-low, and azalea).

Of course, the AMA's are a joke. It's telling that Beyonce chose to ignore it this year for once.

For me it's a toss up between Ryan Adams self titled album and Becks Morning Phase.

A slim year for me buying new releases.

Beck's MORNING PHASE is outstanding, possibly the best LP of the Twentyteens.

DBT's ENGLISH OCEANS is OK.

U2's SONGS OF INNOCENCE is pretty good. I was shocked at first but it's grown on me. I bought the double disc hard copy release since I want it to sound better than the online version. I've gotten to like it. Some good tunes on it.

I think that's it. Hell, I think I've only seen 3 movies this year: Godzilla, Maleficent (with my wife's niece) and Interstellar, which is fanfuckingtastically awesome.

U2?

Well if you're bored by this band you should listen to Siouxsie and the Banshees, the best band of the last decades without any doubt.

Who is one of the main influences of The Edge? John McGeoch. He was a genius who had the most beautiful guitar sound I have ever heard. I can't take seriously a list of the "100 best guitarists ever" which doesn't mention him.

Also, someone talked about "TV On The Radio". They were also influenced by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Simple Minds? They covered the song "Christine".

So we should mention the recent remasters of the four last Siouxsie and the Banshees studio albums. The best one is Peepshow, with John Klein on guitar. It shows how great Siouxsie's voice is. Listen to "Rhapsody".

Kozelek is an incredible songwriter

I love the "Rollercoaster" album of Red House Painters (the end of "Katy Song" is mind-blowing!!!) and "Mark Kozelek & Desertshore".

No 1 on amazon.uk's list, Beck's "Morning Phase", is only rated no. 316 on Rateyourmusic. Does this say something about the quality of music made this year?

Quite a few heavy hitting releases but nothing terribly memorable unfortunately...I'd have to go with "The Black Keys" as a release that will be remembered.

Most unexpected release : the "new" Floyd album
Good surprise : Bryan Ferry back to his early 80s form.

Sounds like I need to check out Lucinda William !

Was looking forward to discovering the linked SUN KIL MOON but I seem to be in the minority here as I'm not too thrilled listening to that rambling droning song :-(

Some fine releases I kept on listening throughout the year :

- Damon Albarn / Everyday Robots
- Robert Plant / Lullaby And... The Ceaseless Roar
- Tricky / Adrian Thaws
- Blonde Redhead / Barragan
- Marissa Nadler / July
- The Pack a.d. / Do Not Engage
- Tinariwen / Emmaar
- The Roots / ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin

Best reissue (and well thought out) must be the Led Zeppelin first 5 albums reissues : mighty sound (at last!) and very interesting "companion" discs - Wish the classic Stones albums would be reissued this way.

Best compilation must be Nothing Has Changed by David Bowie (the 3-CD edition in reverse chronological order) - though the Who Hits 50! 2-CD comp is very nice too.

And looking forward to listen to the new AC/DC of course.

I forgot Morrissey and Marr's albums, but they are both crap.

At least we have reissues of "Vauxhall and I" and "Your Arsenal".
