I liked 1995's Monkey Man but they did it better in 2003. The VOODOO version was too fast and too drawn out. LICKS version was slower, heavier and better, especially the Madison Square Garden performance. It's a bit more fluid. And it doesn't have the long ending with Lisa to weaken it.

Lisa, on the other hand, looked fantastic in 1995.

SFM from the VOODOO tour was better than the STEEL WHEELS/URBAN JUNGLE but on the LICKS tour they destroyed it.

Never did understand why they didn't use this version over the one from Twickenham. This one is superior.

Great. Mick Taylor's guitar playing in this track was smoking hot.

I don't even like the tune that much but "Hot Stuff" from the 1976 Barcelona Spain concert was hot!

peace

Right. They did some great renditions of that tune in 76.

A great guitar show. Check back if you can I.D the Keith nodding during Fool to Cry, it would be cool to verify that story....

peace

There are two songs with Taylor in his list...

The El Mocambo side off Love You Live may be the best live set they ever put on record, imo.

Other fantastic officially released tracks:

Imagination (Fort Worth 78 and Hampton 81)
Beast Of Burden (Forth Worth 78)
Waiting On A Friend (Hampton 81)
Gimme Shelter (LA 75)
Midnight Rambler (Brussels 73)
Twenty Flight Rock (Hampton 81 and Still Life)
Factory Girl (Flashpoint)
Stray Cat Blues (Ya Yas)
Prodigal Son (Ya Yas)
You Gotta Move (Ya Yas)
Honky Tonk Women (Hyde Park 69)
I'm Moving On (Live In England '65)
Mona (Camden 64)
Cops And Robbers (Camden 64)
Wild Horses (Stripped)
Sister Morphine (No Security)
Dead Flowers (Ladies And Gentlemen)
Almost Hear You Sigh (Tokyo 90)
That's How Strong My Love Is (Live Licks)

And the list goes on...

Were it not for Brussels having been released on vinyl (box set), then I would agree with you re El Mocambo.

While so many on your list are new to our thread, I can "hear" you on some (Factory Girl and Twenty Flight Rock are smokin hot!), but on others (Almost Hear You Sigh & Wild Horses), I cannot subscribe to the magazine. I'm Moving On also COOKS!

Great post!!!

Taylor was on fire, and Keith was trying keepin' up. A great guitar show. Check back if you can I.D the Keith nodding during Fool to Cry, it would be cool to verify that story....

But Taylor had left the band by then and Ronnie was playing with them. Am I missing something here?

Nope, you're absolutely right. I've corrected my post. Listening to that tracks lead guitar break my brain just assumed it was Taylor, never heard Ronnie play quite like that or with that tone. Maybe it was Keith all along? confused smiley In which case I've never heard Keith really play that way either. Maybe someone with a better copy of it can shed some light.

peace

Naturalust --

Just to confirm, the lead guitar on Hot Stuff, as it was done in '76, is definitely Ronnie. Thanks.

Sympathy...Ya-Ya's...PERIOD!!!

Inclined to agree with you there, however......

Sympathy and Its only rock n roll from Love you Live are equally as good IMHO.... At the moment......

On the other hand there's so many good 'uns to choose from, my opinion may/will be different next week!

What a drag it is gettin' old

YCAGWYW from Brussels is just the best for me from start to finish, but I still get goosebumps every time from "...and Keith Richards on guitar..." before Keith perfectly explodes into the opening riff of Bye Bye Johnny from '72. They keep up that pace and just destroy for 3+ minutes, with some perfect Keith vocals to top it off...it's got it all.

So many choices!

Here's my 2:

Gimme Shelter from Paradiso

Rambler form GYYYO

This one will always be near the top of my list. What a band!
