The studio version is excellent but I do prefer the way they played it on the 1969 tour more, perhaps because it's a bit more funky and Mick doesn't do the long drawn out choruses (he would also improve on Honky Tonk Women a few years later like that). Unfortunately Jagger ruined the version on GYYYO! by overdubbing the vocals to sound more like the studio version. He's such a twat bag like that.
Ever since, to my ears anyway, they've plowed through it, with the versions since 1972 being too fast, Mick just shit-grunting or screaming through the lyrics, and then later on getting way too slick, one dimensional and too long (1989 for example) ie borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring when used as an encore.
