One Hit to the Body beats anything on Undercover.

Maybe, but nothing else on Dirty Work even comes close. It's very likely their worst record.

And we are talking albums here. Not songs.

I was about to say Goat's Head Soup but I'm not so sure it's still underrated - definitely not on this board. Nah, I reckon the award goes to Black And Blue.

Dirty Work isn't underrated - it's just plain undercooked. >grinning smiley<

Likely? No question about it, Dirty Work is really non-listenable. I'll take One Hit (decent, but not as great as many here try to pass it off as) and Too Rude, but the rest can be trashed.

Undercover is not 'great' but at least it beats Steel Wheels.

Harlem Shuffle anyone? Could have been included on ANY Stones album without making the album poorer, imo.

Well that's setting the bar pretty low, isn't it?

Take us hard core Stones fans away. In terms of record of sales it has to be
Exile.
I was always shocked it didn't knock people away when it was 1st released.

In terms of us fans.

1. IORR
2. Black n Blue
3. Bigger Bang.

December's Children. Proof: Not one mention so far in over three dozen posts. And it's a solid half hour of music. Choice cuts and hidden gems. Ripping rockers, solid ballads, and a couple hits as well. Maybe it's because it's a U.S. album cobbled together from UK album and EP tracks as well as singles and this is more of an international forum, but not only is DC the most underrated, it's also probably the most overlooked. I mean, Between The Buttons gets more mention than December's. Perhaps they should have titled it December's Children (and nobody's).

Not terrible, by any means, but still, covers like Ain't Too Proud and Just My Imagination are far better, imo.

Even if that were true, and it's not by a mile, the rest of Dirty Work is mired in so much dreck so that the one possible bright spot you've offered is hopelessly tarnished.

I love December's Children.
My 1st studio Stones album.
To young and not a fan when it
was first released. I saw it and thought
the cover was cool.

Still LOVE it!!!

I love every track.

Then add to your list.

Singer not the song & Blues turn to grey.

Both amazing cool tracks that most people wouldn't
Believe the Stones could write and you have a GREAT
Stones album.

I think B&B. I always enjoyed it. I thought in those days and now GHS as well as B&B are still better than IORR. B&B is as interesting as EOMS in terms of history. First album with Ronnie as a Stone and it was all still typically seventies you know, they just did their thing. Everybody did. And when you look back you realise it was special I guess but you don't realise it at the moment you do all those things. No strings attached and you just do what you feel you have to do and/or what you like to do which was most of the time the same thing. I'm not saying it's the best way to live your life (maybe saving all your money for later and be home at 6 is what most people do) but I just think an atmosphere like that can be found on albums like SF, GHS, EOMS and B&B...I go for that because it still is the way I live my life in fact. I don't know where I work in six months but I know I still like to hear those albums and I guess feelings like that is what brings most fans to the RS...

Their Satanic Majesties Request. The point has been proven it by it barely even being mentioned yet. Thats how underrated it is. One of their best albums.

I can't vote for the early albums because pretty much before Aftermath, the albums aren't really "albums". They were a way for the band to get their covers and singles out to people, at least in America. They weren't really crafting the albums yet.

Kind of the same way as The Beatles first "real" album is Rubber Soul. The others before that were just thrown together with no sequencing or were just soundtracks.

Definitely Goast Head Soup. The sound of Undercover has not aged well.

Why not? Pretty Beat Up, Tie You Up and All The Way Down are just as timeless sound-wise as Dancing With Mr. D, 100 Years Ago and Angie.

The fact that three singles and one dub song is tweaked a little production-wise shouldn't ruin anyone's listening experience for the entire album?

The clavinet and the triangles on GHS are just as dated as the mini-synths and the percussion on Undercover, imo.

Simple: Song quality.

Well, if you must, both. I know you like that record. I can't stand it personally...the songs or the sound.

I suggest a distinction between most ignored and most underrated Stones albums. Certainly, there is a problem if we go by the UK or the US catalogue. I have no feeling for the latter, due to my own listening history, even if I might look upon track listings. (By the way, I myself think about the albums before AFTERMATH as albums.)

As to most underrated albums on this forum, my choice would also imply that I hold my candidates in high esteem.

Then I must say that the verdict by me must be shared by THEIR SATANIES MAJESTIES REQUEST and UNDERCOVER.

Given how many people say Undercover, can it really be "underrated"?

Look at lists of socalled "worst Stones albums". Opposed to that, there is a minority that loves the album.

Your observation might reflect the possible fact that opinion more than to other albums is especially polarised as to UNDERCOVER.

Black and Blue .

I admit I wasn't entirely thrilled with B&B at first but I'm amazed at how it's grown on me with time. I love every track...except Cherry Oh Baby. At the moment I cannot get Ronnie's funky opening riff to Hey Negrita out of my head! Great album!
