There are many many versions of Slave floating around, this one from Youtube claims to be version 1. I don't know if that's true but it's over 11 minutes long.

If I remember this correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong), the TY version of Slave was built from two takes of the song, originally recorded in the Black and Blue sessions.

A real shame they never played it live. 1989/1990 would also have been a good time, considering the sound, spirit and playing abilities of the band at that time.

Slave is one of the best songs ever. So sad they didn't go for it in 2002/2003

But Slave got a son born in 2023 named Get Close and although not as cool as his dad maybe we will hear this one soon.

Congratulations, PMMB. I nominate the first part of your second paragraph for quote of the year. So true. I heard the brilliant similarity straight away. thumbs up

I don't think it would work live in a stadium at all. It's a cool jam, but not much focus and I think people would be pretty bored pretty quickly.

I realise I'm in a minority (of one, perhaps), but I actually prefers its 2023 offspring, Get Close.

It's one take, from early 1975, and not worked on until fall of 1980 and then again in the spring of 1981.

Don't know about any influence, but he did backing vocals.

It's obviously a great song on Tattoo You. One of their best. Showing the unique qualities of the Stones.
However, if they want to play it live, they need to work on it with a different attitude. The Stones from the late 60s, early 70s (before the song even existed) would have been able to do it some justice. The Stones from late 70s early 80s maybe too.
But the way the Stones have been doing live shows for the past 40 years, Slave would not work well. It's a jam. It's a groove. It's not a well organized pop-song which could be directed by a piano player and tight stadium arrangements.
It would work great, absolutely fabulous, in small pubs. In Amsterdam, I am thinking of joints like "Maloe Melo", "Last Waterhole", "Bourbon Street" (I don't know if these places still exist because I don't live there anymore). In Barcelona, I have never discovered places like that exactly.
It should be played dirty, unpolished, sweaty, with abandon. If not, it would just be boring.
