Sing This All Together
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Olympic Sound Studios, London, UK, July 7 - 22, 1967 and
De Lane Lea Studios, London, UK, October 2 - 5, 1967

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals, percussion
Keith Richards - electric guitar, percussion, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - percussion
Bill Wyman - bass, percussion
Brian Jones - mellotron, flute, brass, percussion
Nicky Hopkins - piano

Why don't we sing this song all together?
Open our heads let the pictures come
And if we close all our eyes together
Then we will see where we all come from

Pictures of us through the steamy haze
Pictures of us painted in our caves

Why don't we sing this song all together?
Open our heads let the pictures come
And if we close all our eyes together
Then we will see where we all come from

Why don't we sing this song all together?
Open our heads let the pictures come
And if we close all our eyes together
Then we will see where we all come from

Pictures of us beating on our drum
Never stopping till the rain has come

Why don't we sing this song all together?
Open our heads let the pictures come
And if we close all our eyes together
Then we will see where we all come from

Produced by The Rolling Stones

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Their Satanic Majesties Request” LP
(Decca TXS 103) UK, December 8, 1967

Funny song! Stones contribution to 60ies Brit-Pop...

In the (fortunately not too large) list of really embarrassing stuff that they have done, this song ranks very high. In general, Between the Button, Her Satanic Majesties and Dirty Works are the albums that produced most of the candidates for that list.
I would say this particular song is among the top three (the others being Back To Zero and On With The Show).

Awww baby, I don’t care what anyone says, I love this track. The weird dissonance, the harmonies, the Eastern-tinged percussion, the wonderful instrumental flourishes from Mr Jones, it all melds perfectly and becomes a gloriously trippy, far-out psychedelic portal, welcoming us to the super-groovy intergalactic intra-psychic journey that is TSMR. The fact that John and Paul are part of the show just adds to the magical mystery. My advice, if you want to get experienced: fire one up, put on the headphones, drop the needle on TSMR, open your head, and let the pictures come.

It's certainly not the worst thing on the album. It's endearing.

See What Happens is one of their greatest pieces of music. It has to be played loud. I find it truly brilliant.

It has nothing to do with Mingus, but it reminds me of Mingus every time I hear it. It has that Tijuna Moods feel.

One more track from the Popping Stones that I don't like at all.

I love this album...I never did get into this or see what happens
track until I got a lot older...

Now when I'm in the mood I play every song on the album.

Sad no one makes albums like this any more...Each time you play
it you walk away with something new.

Spot on with those three. This song in particular is just embarassing. Pandering to the times in the same way that ASMB used Biz Markie's little rap interludes in the 90s.

Every time I hear this track I am once again surprised just how much better it is than I thought.

One of the worst songs they've ever recorded. An attemot to sound like The Beatles at the time, Magical Mystery Tour, that didn't work.

Ah, but ASMB is shameless pandering. This is not. >grinning smiley<

Wow, all 5 Stones credited with percussions on the tune!

I love it. Much more interesting than hearing Chuck Berry over and over - no matter how well it's done.

"Satanic Majesties" is my favorite Stones album.

One of my favourite intro songs of any Stones albums. I loved it when I bought it circa 1968 and I still love it. Much of the album is over the top but so what. There are a few great songs.

It is a psychedelic song from an experimental vinyl Album, I still enjoy listening.

The tune itself is not strong.
But in context of the album it works well.
Satanic is from a time when they did what they wanted and didn't make albums to 'go on tour'. They were young inventive men, unspoiled and happy.
Seen this way, Satanic is a much more 'important' album than, say, "Some Girls", even if the latter are a stronger album.

Nope. Just love the album. It's a gas gas gas. Doesn't mean it's their best, but it's my favorite.

I'm not quite there Drew, but I have always thought of this trippy song as sort of the overture to the rest of the album. Alice in Wonderland, aka the Stones, pulling the curtain open...

I think we should get all the IORR'ians in one room to give this tune a try, (see what happens).
