I think Back To Zero.

I can't remember if it has any piano on it as the 80s was the last time I listened to it, but he did co-write it so I think I my logic may work.

yes but Chuck is clean while Mac has a history of substance use.

That's the key point here : with the old Stones you'd get a job cos you liked to "party", now (1989-2014+) you get a job cos you're super-clean.

Jagger is the one who cleaned the band : now when you see the band perform you don't imagine that backstage soem roadie is snorting some stuff or being "honored" by a groupie. The entire crew is focused on the show, prepared to help if sh!t happens onstage.

Not everybody followed Mick's instructions, though.

Look at Keith in the beginning here - the show opener! grinning smiley

this is too funny -- looks at the expression on ronnie's face at 0:49, and then i think mick actually rolls his eyes at keith around 0:56.

There should be a YouTube channel with all the F-ups of the Stones one after the other.

I think the Stones always needed a boogie woogie kind of pianist, just like the swing bass of Bill Wyman. Chuck is great for songs like Worried, 2,000 Light Years, Undercover, I Got The Blues, All About You, etc. For the pure rock and roll and blues songs his sound and timing is just too clean.

All though I must agree on So Young on which Chuck plays a seldomly great solo.

Best chuck solo was when Keith joined in on his keyboards when he used to do Honkey Tonk Women. Just kidding. Its Lets Spend The Night Together In Austin Texas 2006.Not really a solo but i like what he brings to that one, plus keiths solo at the end. Why cant he do that every time sad smiley

His solo on So Young is pretty damn good.

Great version with pianos only.

Jessica

Those who aren't familiar with the Allmans (I assume that would only be some of the younger members) NEED to hear "Jessica". Listen to Chuck's magnificent solo from the 2:30 mark and the way it segues to Dickey Betts' guitar solo. Wonderful. I wonder how much better Chuck would sound in concert if he could play a real grand piano - there are some musical instruments that simply can't be replaced with "more versatile" gear.

Well, Chuck Leavell... Too clean.

I dream he coukd play than Nicky Hopkins : discrete touch, spark full of grace (no Expectations, but there are so many examples...)

Or like Stu : boogie man, bastringue geniuss.
Keith Richards : "Ian Stewart. I'm still working for him. To me the Rolling Stones is his band. Without his knowledge and organisation... we'd be nowhere.

Of course some of his work with the ABB was sublime. Just great.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the great piano playing he did on The Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker! Stonesy sounding music with great piano work. That record makes me think Chuck has been intentionally leashed in his work with the Stones. There is no doubt in my mind that he could embellish Stones music like he did with the Crowes but someone is likely preventing him from doing so. He has become a loyal and obedient employee like Darryl although I would prefer a real piano I think everything he does is to please Mick and Keith, not us.

There is a version of Tumbling Dice in the studio out there somewhere with Chuck playing some killer boogie woogie Nawleans style piano and some great harmony vocals going on that has always amazed me and made me think he still has it going on but we just rarely get to hear it. Perhaps someone here knows what I'm talking about? Thanks.

In the studio Chuck has done some barrelhouse boogie-woogie and tasty organ work with the Stones. I'm not a fan of his live sound, but that's Mick and Keith's fault. I see no problem with Chuck when I play "Feel On, Baby," "Tie You Up (The Pain of Love)," "Harlem Shuffle," "Fancy Man Blues," etc.

Old Love from Eric Clapton's Unplugged. Does that count?

I actually thought he was the best part of that whole show! And I like Clapton, but the piano kept catching my attention.

Playing keyboards (and not a real piaono) is very hepful for the modern Stones on stage and for their sound...

The man is without doubt a talented musician but let's not be fooled, he's in the band for his musical direction rather than his playing. For some reason these days they seem to need a musical director (rock n roll huh!)

For me, he has ruined many a good stones song live, but in particular the intro to SFTD and that irritating noodling which gives the song a far too up beat feel when it should be dark and satanic.

He's here to stay so I'm not stressing about him too much, the very fact they are still touring makes up for his short falls on the keyboards.

If being alive, would Stu then have been left out of the band?

did keith say that? Brian is the reason keith is in a band, his senses and knowledge.

i think that this should perhaps be a sticky thread? chuck is after all basically a rolling stone at this point and it's important to celebrate his legend and work.
