I love Chuck's moment—that's no solo—in the SHINE A LIGHT version of Some Girls just after "They're really such a tease." I just like the sound of his keyboards there.

Chuck is the living proof it's very very hard to be a Stones sideman because, despite your own musical skills/merits, you can very quickly discover that you don't really fit in the picture.

Thinking backwards, the Stones should be thankful for having so many sidemen that totally fit in the band's musical picture : Nicky, Biily Preston, Bobby and J. Price, Mac, etc. These guys certainly were on the same (weird dark?) vibe as the band itself.

Chuck is just like you and me : a regular chap and a Stones fan who got the best job a Stones fan might dream of... JOINING THEM!

We probably owe him the fact that rare songs like WAYou or Sway got to be played at all live. Imagine Ron & Keef trying to remember WAY by themselves in rehearsal... "Errrrr sh!t happens you know, we'll be ready by 2020!" grinning smiley

As a musical director Chuck certainly pushed the band in the right direction.

Actually, now that you mention it - although Jessica is clearly the stand-out solo - his work on Brothers and Sisters as a whole, and with the Allman Brothers in general, is superb. He was a great sparring partner for Dickey Betts in the 70s, back when Dickey was one of the best blues-rock soloists around. Southbound is another great one. He's so much better a fit for them than he ever has been for the Stones,

His electric stage piano fits the RS' kitsch sound that they have produced over the past decades very well. I have to admit that. Just my impression.

Yeah I like the piano in that too. Not a good song but some nice playing by Chuck.

Is there a solo on LMT? Some nice playing there, I agree. Chuck received credits for that song, didn't he?

Has he done the intro to 'We Love You' any time? That would be his greatest 'solo' maybe...

Totally agree with this. Brothers and Sisters is one of my favorite albums.

And that the main point about people complaining about Chuck. He's a great musician so I don't want to "Chuck-bash" but he just doesn't seem to fit with the Stones. It perplexes me why the Stones seem to like him so much. I suppose it has to do with him taking a lot of pressure off the Stones by taking care of the arrangements, leading the band in the right tempo, etc. If all he did was play and let Mick and Keith be in charge things would be different, but I know Mick has been hell-bent since 1989 on playing the songs as close to the album versions of old, which they did before. Chuck has some musical and technical knowledge to help them do that. I don't think he ruins the Stones but I do think they'd do better with someone like Mac from Faces

yes but Chuck is clean while Mac has a history of substance use.

That's the key point here : with the old Stones you'd get a job cos you liked to "party", now (1989-2014+) you get a job cos you're super-clean.

Jagger is the one who cleaned the band : now when you see the band perform you don't imagine that backstage soem roadie is snorting some stuff or being "honored" by a groupie. The entire crew is focused on the show, prepared to help if sh!t happens onstage.

Not everybody followed Mick's instructions, though.

Look at Keith in the beginning here - the show opener! grinning smiley

The best solo he could play might be on a song entitled "This Should Be The Very Last Time" ...
