Dreamer - The warhorses have been played to death but those are fantastic songs that are in my DNA. Would love more rarities but how can some of the best rock songs ever written and performed be left out of the Stones top 25 songs?? That is just ridiculous. When the Stones do stop we will all bitch and complain that we no longer go and see them play Satisfaction. I relish Satisfaction when I am at a show it can always be the last time that the timeless song that made the Rolling Stones mega rock stars will ever be played. Do I wish the band would play less "warhorses" when I go to a show? Yes. But I don't want to go to a show where they play none of them. Whatever we think of Start Me Up it always gets the crowd fired up. As soon as Keith hits those apparently simple little notes the crowd is on their feet jumping, dancing and yelling. When Keith can no longer do this we will be robbed of a real important part of our lives and yearn to be young again. That is how those so called warhorses make me feel.

I would imagine the general public's top 25 Stones songs list would look something like this:

#1. Satisfaction
#2. Honky Tonk Woman
#3. Brown Sugar
#4. Start Me Up
#5. Jumpin Jack Flash
#6. You Can't Always Get What You Want
#7. Gimme Shelter
#8. Paint It Black
#9. Ruby Tuesday
#10. Wild Horses
#11. Angee
#12. IORR
#13. Sympathy For The Devil
#14. Tumbling Dice
#15. Miss You
#16. Happy
#17. Some Girls
#18. Let's Spend The Night Together
#19. Midnight Rambler
#20. Street Fighting Man
#21. Mixed Emotions
#22. Let It Bleed
#23. Just My Imagination
#24. Under My Thumb
#25. Get Off Of My Cloud

Of course, there's always going to be Rambler because of MT.

Love the selections. How could we go wrong with so many great Stones songs?!

Here are mine to add to the collection (not necessarily in order although Gimme Shelter is definitely # 1):

1, Gimme Shelter
2. Moonlight Mile
3. Time Waits for No One
4. Shine a Light
5. Paint It Black
6. Dead Flowers
7. Ruby Tuesday
8. Out of Time
9. Salt of the Earth
10. Street Fighting Man (Live versions)
11. Can't You hear me Knocking
12. Worried About You
13. Memory Motel
14. Let It Rock (Live)
15. One hit (To The Body)

19. Rocks Off

Very tough to narrow this down to 25. And I'm sure when I awake tomorrow I would probably have a new list.

...or are they damn near close to being right? I'll give you that "Sexdrive" is worse but "Indian Girl" is so lyrically clumsy and aurally jarring (Mariachi horns?!) that I'll happily take "Streets Of Love" or any of the snoozefests-masquerading-as-new-songs on 40 Licks over it. Those five songs are absolutely abysmal but this one's probably in the top 3 worst-ever Stones songs as I'm having trouble thinking of *any* song other than "Sexdrive" that's more embarrassing. Oh! Thought of one, "Blinded By Rainbows." So terrible. smiling smiley

20. Get Off Of My Cloud
21. Heaven
22. Ain't No Use For Crying
23. Last Time
24. Jiving Sister Fanny
25. One Hit To The Body

(I can't help adding that it was difficult leaving out Melody, Don't Know Why and She's So Cold, on a different day they might have made it instead of the current numbers 23, 24 and 25.)

True, and the Beatles did theirs within a very short span of time. Amazing songwriters.
