No more fags

Has Keith quit the smokes? He didn't have ANY during the PC.

And what is the health status of Ronnie? Is he sober and has he (also) left the cigarettes??

I don't think so.... on rs.com there is a feature with Keith being interviewed, with fag in hand. Looks like the same day as press conference.

No, recent pictures taken of Keith when he is on his way to a videoshoot, clearly shows him with a pack of Marlboros in his hand.

Why would he give up at this point?

Who cares anyway whether he had a cigarette or not during 3 songs???

I agree with riffhard 72. Who really cares?

However, I very much doubt that after 40 + years of puffing away, he'd just quit. I'd say the damage (if any) is already done.

Also, I beleive that if Ronnie hadn't have had his cancer scare, he'd still be smoking.

You'll never go back to non-smokers.

Thanks man.

It is all in your mind. What you want to see. They bring in two or three packs of Marlboro before show start. Nicely positioned in front of Charlie' drum kit on Keith side. Then the Stones play for 2 hours. Keith don't touch those cigarettes for two hours, except for when he is doing his own set. Then he is picking one - 1 - cigarette - for half a minute - then he is throwing it on stage and start playing. It is a gimmick. For his image. What you want to see. Then everybody is telling about the heavy smoker Keith.

If Keith was such a heavy smoker. How come he can be on stage for two hours and then just toss out the cigarette without even enjoying it? I have seen most of their shows lately and this is the procedure every time.

NYC has got a law against smoking I think. When the Stones played the HBO show in Jan 2003 Keith did his usual cigarette stunt on stage, and the new NYC mayor saw it, got mad and tried to stop the show. In vain of course.

The press conference lasted for may be half an hour. 15 minutes live. Then a break of half an hour. Keith could have lots of smokes if he was desperate for it. Then the PC itself - may be 15 minutes.

The fact is people don't smoke in public anymore. You don't smoke in hotel lobbys, check-in queues, elevators, public buildings or other places where normal people are around. Except for Copenhagen airport and some other rare places I go to, most places where I travel are smoke free. Even concerts. Welcome to the 21st century!

I don't have a problem with people who are smoking - as long as they are young, that is. It can be a bit rebellious and cool. While attending junior high it was exciting too sneak away and get a smoke, but when your over 30 I think it's just plain stupid for obvious reasons. Keith and Ronnie should have quit a long time ago. It's simply a disgusting habit and so useless and destructive at the same time.

Well of course I was joking before, but only in the form (anyway I beg your pardon: couldn't imagine that some tough rockers may be offended!)

I am for a free world, and if one wants to smoke he can smoke, for all that I care. But, ad our boss noted, this is the 21st century and I am happy I don't have to be forced to smoke my share of your freedom.

Of course I am also an hypocrite, so if someone whishes I get F++ed because I drive a motorbike instead of bike, you are welcome!

Do you have a Marlboro?

Keith has not smoked onstage for a while now......last time he smoked some was in 81/82. Ronnie on the other hand ALWAYS has a smoke burning.

Remember though, Keith is on a steady diet of daily gigantic doobies. Kills the pain of Arthritis and helps keep you off heroin.

Not what you want to see. If it's a gimmick it's what they want you to see. Big difference.

I wonder how many people here thought this was a gay thread upon first look at the title?

Yeah I think a lot of it now is props for image. I read an inverview where he says he actually doesn't smoke much now, and does so for effect, especially on photo shoots. I think Keith is probably a closet health guy, and is watching what he does more and more, but doesn't talk about it.

i don't smoke but i don't have nothing against smokers. it is a matter of choice, i don't wanna be moralistic.
governements allow the sale of cigarettes and they make a lot of money, it is more than legal.
so, regarding keith, i don't really care.. let people chose with freedom, since smokers respect non-smokers..... it is nothing illegal
keith knows it is dangerous for his health, like milions of smokers

Well, being American, and since the word is not used for cigarettes where I live, you just have to wonder.

This thread is like a car wreck.
You don't need to, but when you drive by you just have to slow down and look.

Keith was fined for smoking on stage in Glasgow in 2003 and made headlines for breaking the smoking ban at the first O2 show in 2007. He escaped a fine that time but as I remember he then ate a cigarette on stage at one of the next two shows there! Anyone else remember that?
