True--the name for this leg of the 50th etc tour is different, in the same way that the 1990 European leg was named the Urban Jungle tour. But it was still part of the overall Steel Wheels concept.

If they have Mick Taylor along for a guest spot, that means they are still celebrating their 50 years of history with a former member. They are merely treating their Far East and European markets this year to what the U.S. and UK saw in 2012 and 2013.

Once the shows wrap up this year, no more 50 and etcetera concept and no more need to have Mick Taylor along as a special guest.

You don't have to be an insider to know their modus operandi.winking smiley

Steel Wheels / Urban Jungle: a little different indeed.
...still celebrating their 50 years of history with a former member: a little different.
no more need to have Mick Taylor along as a special guest: you can think that but maybe there are other needs involved.

You don't have to be an insider to know their modus operandi: you are one of the few independent thinkers that don't have to! smiling smiley
By the way: what do you think of my suggestion to team up with guys like DP & Mathijs and write a book about (aspects of) the RS?

Cocaine eyes, please give us a glimpse, a glimmer of how you are so HIGHLY connected to the band, to put it in your own words: you are an employee, a son/daughter, some relative, close friend or do you play or sing in the Stones.?
In what category can we put you in?

An EMPLOYEE. smoking smiley And hence, a good friend to all of them.tongue sticking out smiley In particuler, a friend to Keith. They value their long-time, loyal emloyees, members of the their entourage. OK? eye rolling smiley

** Hey Dreamer - remember I said they'd not hassle us/you this time. Forgive me please for my mistake. **yawning smiley

*** I am a daughter to my parents, a relative to my aunts and uncles, and I do sing along with the radio/CD's. ***spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Hope that gave you some 'satisfaction'.

Now let's leave it all up to BV. This is HIS site; certainly not mine.........

Don't worry!
Can't leave the office for a couple of hours... eye rolling smiley

People can't read anymore? Cocaine Eyes is probably the best informed person on iorr. We just give a clue sometimes that something is on the way. But what people probably want/demand (NOW!!!) is a setlist. Pictures. Videos.
Or sensational blabla to hide there is nothing to tell.
I just started this to inform iorrians that people were packing & travelling and that we could expect first arrivals this week...
Cocaine Eyes confirmed and soon after that she said (Jan 23) "As of yesterday/last night, Chuck Leavell was on his way to rehearsals."
And after that we exchanged some knowledge about the (im)possibilities of a R-gig or a S-gig.

Sorry we don't have a setlist!
Sorry we don't have pictures!
Sorry we don't have videos!
And to expect we should say who we are...are you for real yourself? confused smiley

Oh yes, AND they DEMAND our names. Our addresses. Our hair colour. Our dog's name. Our phone numbers.........

As for Chuck Leavell, indeed he was on a TV channel saying he's leaving for Paris. On his way to Paris. Did he give a date and time?

Bottom Line (for me) - UNTIL BV makes it a sticky HIMSELF.........all we post is sheer crap. (To many here). With the exception of a few members who are kind and polite to us.

Second Bottom Line: Wouldn't it behoove die-hard fans to soak up every bit of into we give? Hell, it can't hurt in the long run. Dare I say it - even BV himself get something out of all our blabblering.confused smiley

Dreamer,

If you and DP and Mathijs team up for a book on the Stones I'd be delighted to read it--but make sure you include His Majesty as well so that the Brian Jones years will be properly covered.smiling smiley

And yes, I have seen some of Bob Bonis' work--great candid images. You can find a number of them included on withaheadfullofsnow's "Stones through the years..." thread: [www.iorr.org]

By the way, I'd love to be proven incorrect about my assumptions regarding their retaining of Mick Taylor, and it would be great if their professional association continues beyond this year's string of shows (that is, after Europe this summer).

However, it is difficult to determine what their creative future as a band is, if any, what with Mick Jagger's admitted reluctance to record a new album. I think with Mick Taylor in the mix there could be results approaching a more classic sound and style, if Plundered My Soul is any indication. That way, it would be something more than just obvious Mick or Keith songs.

coy·ness

noun: coyness

1.(esp. in a woman) the quality of feigning shyness or modesty in an attempt to seem alluring.

2. the quality of being reluctant to give details about something regarded as sensitive; reticence.
"the company's coyness about their spring offering"

Ah, just read your post on page 3. Work has been piling up lately and I've been mostly just skimming through this thread, which has been building in page volume at quite a pace in recent days. I see your meaning now. For my part it would be more a work of speculative analysis than a mere recitation of encyclopedic facts, as I'm always more interested in the hidden meanings behind things, the subtle dynamics that drive the relationships between people both on the personal and professional level. But yes, that would be a fun project, wouldn't it? A sort of peer-reviewed study of one of our favorite subjects. Count me in!

Hahaha at least this thread has some funny stuff now. As for the insiders I'm feeling a little cringeworthy for you. I'm
Assuming you're oblivious to how you present to the rest here but no matter.

I'm in Perth so perfectly placed for the Stones to use my huge studio oddly enough called the Voodoo Lounge. Just to warn you Keith - my new best friend employer to be that I will tell everyone what you're playing and rate the band out of ten for each number. My name is Kyle and come to think of it I won't be their employee I'll in fact be their captor as I will be demanding a cpl bob for their safe return from my studio. I'll be even more important than an insider! I'll be an insider with the Stones inside my studio! So they'll actually be my insiders!

Trump that you pseudo insider dudes!

They're here and playing "We love you". Poorly. 3/10. Chuck is screwing up all Brian's meletrone parts. Off to humiliate him and scold Mick for fudging the lyrics.

I'm Kyle. Stones insidee.

I do wonder how those guitars travel between tours or if they are being played in the meantime

I often wondered this myself. On Mick Taylor's website, under equipment, it lists his amplifier as from "the Rolling Stones collection". Where is this collection between tours and who is the curator?

Most bands store their equipment in a secure warehouse when they are not on tour or recording. In the case of the Stones their gear used to be stored at a specialised high-security facility in New York but I believe most of it is now kept in a place somewhere in London (with the exception of Keith's guitars which kept at a storage building on his property in Connecticut.) In 1999, just before the No Security Tour, I had the opportunity to visit their warehouse in NYC with their then-equipment manager, the late Chuch Magee. I was there helping him to sort out the pieces they would be using on the upcoming tour. There were four or five rooms filled with their guitars, amplifiers and drums...plus wardrobe and dressing room furnishings. The room containing the guitars had rows of metal shelves filled with stacks of guitar cases. The cases each had labels on the side indicating what guitar was inside: '58 Les Paul, '64 Strat, '52 Tele, '59 ES-355, '74 Zemitis, '48 Martin acoustic, etc, etc. All the famous instruments we've come to associate with Keith and Ron were there plus many more. There were literally a hundred vintage guitars in that room along with dozens of newer models. It was guitar heaven! The amp room was no less impressive. It was packed with stacks of road cases containing a large variety of models in all sizes and brands. Likewise, the drum room had a number of Charlie's Gretsch kits from over the years (some not even in cases) and piles of drum heads, hardware, cymbals and other gear. There was another room that had rows of tall wardrobe cases filled with the band's stage clothing as well as the dressing room furnishings they use while on tour (furniture, rugs, lamps, exercise equipment etc.) I was there with Chuch for a couple of hours but could have easily spent the whole day poking around and looking inside and case and every box. It was an amazing experience and one I will likely never forget.

Wow. Great story. Thanks. The first useful information to come out in this thread. I could only imagine being in that room. Must be quite a security system too.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the story. And yes, that storage place in New York (SIR Studios) had very high security: a 24-hour armed guard, lots of cameras, and the rooms had heavy steel doors, no windows, and sophisticated alarm systems. It was like the Fort Knox for musical gear!

By the way, the answer to the above question about who is the "curator" of the Rolling Stones guitar collection? Well, I guess that would be Pierre de Beauport, Keith's long-time guitar technician. Pierre inherited the position of chief backline tech from Chuch Magee in 2002 when he died suddenly of a heart attack. Chuch had been with the Stones since 1975. He was a very nice guy and is sorely missed.

Glad you enjoyed it and no, I did not take any photos..or any other "souvenirs." smiling smiley. I didn't have a camera with me at the time and even if I had I don't think I would have wanted to blow my cover and look like a geeky Stones fan around Chuch! It was enough to just be there surrounded by all that history. The only time I maybe had a similar experience was when I once attended a recording session at Abbey Road Studios in London in the same room - Studio B - where The Beatles (and Pink Floyd) recorded almost all of their great albums. It was in the late 80's so with the exception of the grand piano, all of the old equipment was long gone but the room looked basically the same as it did in photos from the 60's. It was a transcendent moment for me standing in that studio in the exact spot where John and Paul sat 20 years earlier with their guitars, writing and recording so many great songs. And being in the control room and imagining George Martin sitting at the console watching the band create their musical masterpieces. But...I digress.

Ok, not sure what the exact difference is though? Warmup gigs would be rehearsal gigs, like Trabendo, like Echoplex? When was the last time there was an actual secret gig where they played under a "secret" name? Sir Morgan's Cove in '81?

El Mocambo, 1977. Toronto. Under the name of April Wine.

Mind you, that wasn't the 'last time' but it's an example.

ETA: No one knew the entire band would show up in Oshawa for Keith's sentencing gig. 1979, under the name New Barbarians. And it wasn't a "warm-up" gig but it was a show of loyalty to Keith.

My point - they can/do pop up almost anywhere at any time!tongue sticking out smiley
