Chris Charlesworth on this supposed Sgt. Pepper's reissue:

"Leaving side the wisdom of this decision for a moment, what a load of absolute bollocks. There was no ‘fury’. I don’t even recall anyone being so much as mildly upset. I don’t recall anyone even considering that they might have been on the album. No one ever mentioned it, as my friend Chris Welch, a writer on Melody Maker at the time, confirms. Everyone simply assumed that ‘PL’/’SFF’ was The Beatles’ wonderful new single without any thought given to whether or not the songs might have been intended for an as yet unreleased album about which we knew nothing whatsoever. In any case, The Beatles were in the habit of releasing singles as separate entities to albums, an admirably generous practice long ago abandoned by the mercenary music business.

Newspapers are big on inventing ‘fury’. It’s a short, four-letter word easily absorbed into a headline. These days it’s usually right-wing pro-Brexit rags stoking up angst amongst their readers over delays in leaving the EU, or ‘massive’ benefits ‘handed out’ to those of whom they disapprove, like refugees, the LGBT community, drug casualties or unmarried mothers. It’s not usually the left-leaning Mirror over a Beatles story, but fake news is everywhere these days."

From [www.SuperDeluxeEdition.com] :

Paul McCartney gives away an MP3 of rare Flowers in the Dirt - Demo

"Paul McCartney is giving away an MP3 of demo from a track on Flowers in the Dirt that will not be included on any of the physical versions of the reissue, including the £135 box set.

The demo is of album track Distractions which is orchestrated by the late Clare Fischer on the album. The demo was recorded in 1987 by Paul alone and demonstrates that he had fine-tuned the melody and lyric from an early stage. This version does feature some sound effects at the end – an idea that was ditched for the master version.

It’s a charming recording and without wanting to labour the point, it’s sad to see little gems that this not included as part of the actual release. However, this strategy is now familiar enough, having been in effect since 2014 when Paul issued free MP3s of unheard versions Rock Show and Letting Go from the Venus and Mars album. In 2015 the single edit of the title track of Tug Of War was left off the reissue and also given away as a download, was an instrumental edit of the 2015 remix of Say Say Say. All of these tracks are still available from the download section of Paul McCartney’s website."

From [www.SuperDeluxeEdition.com] :

Paul McCartney to issue a 3-track cassette for Record Store Day

Large version of this picture

"Paul McCartney has announced that three tracks from the ‘download-only’ section of his forthcoming Flowers in the Dirt deluxe edition will be issued on cassette tape for Record Store Day.

The tracks in question are the three so-called ‘cassette demos’ recorded with Elvis Costello, namely I Don’t Want To Confess, Shallow Grave and Mistress And Maid. These tracks do not appear in any form on either CD2 or CD3 of the Flowers in the Dirt reissue, they are only available as ‘free’ downloads when you buy the £135 box set.

While thematically these rough and ready demos make some kind of sense on cassette, SDE readers who have been following the Flowers in the Dirt saga will surely agree that it is ironic that they are coming out on tape when they were denied a release on CD partly because Paul wants to stay ‘modern’ and embrace/drive people to streaming!

So to be clear, these three tracks are not available on CD or vinyl as part of the reissue campaign, just download (if you buy the deluxe) and cassette tape (if you are lucky enough to secure one on RSD from a participating store). It’s not even clear if you get a download code with the cassette, since it’s not mentioned in the announcement (we’ve asked). Update: This does come with a download code!

The other 13 download-only tracks on the Flowers deluxe remain download-only. Paul McCartney chose NOT to listen to what the fans said and didn’t take up SDE’s representations about offering buyers of the deluxe edition (that requested it) a free CD of the 16 download-only tracks.

Flowers in the Dirt is reissued at the end of next week (24 March 2017)."

Could this be the first piece of film showing future Beatles Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison, along with Paul’s brother, Mike McCartney?

They are on screen for just a couple of seconds – and you can’t make out the tiny figures in the distance – but local historian and Fab Four fan Peter Hodgson, from Kirkby, believes a Liverpool City Police recruitment film from 1958 contains a world first.

TOP 5 Beatles Songs...for ROLLING STONES FANS!
Posted by: treaclefingers ()

This isn't too bad...ok, it's not great but a couple of nuggets:

[consequenceofsound.net]

First song is great...i can 'hear' mick singing it.

2nd one a no-brainer.

3rd, maybe...not sure i completely agree,

4th song, number 4 is a stretch, they're basically saying it's stones-like, because it's a ballad like Wild Horses...don't see it.

number 5, no way...ridonkulous comparison.

Any better Beatles songs than these jokers have come up with?

I like all the Beatles songs mentioned - some more than others, but can't really imagine the Stones playing them successfully and/or even wanting to play them in the first place.

1. Great tune, can't 'hear' Mick - leave the Beatles version alone
2. Desert Trip fail - should have never been attempted
3. Heavy Macca - nah to the stones
4. Never..
5. Maybe in '63 or '64 before they could really write their own tunes - another gift from the Beatles? Maybe have Charlie singing? winking smiley

I would choose Yer Blues.
Maybe Back in the USSR but faster and raunchier ala Rip This Joint w/out backup harmonies/vocals nd a blazing sax solo.
For a stretch, Why Don't We Do it in the Road done acoustically ala Prodigal Son.
