Glimmer Twins in Atlantic City this Saturday Night

They're one of the better Stones tribute bands. If you haven't seen them, it's worth it.They specialize in the Taylor era stuff mostly.

It's a free show at the Social Bar in Revel resort/casino. Starts at 10:30 pm.

I got my dinner reservations at 7 and a room for the night. Gonna party like it's 1972!

I saw them briefly in Philadelphia, they played at a bar close to the Wells Fargo Center right before the first Stones concert there.

Didn't hear them long enough to form much of an opinion about the music, but they sure had the Mick/Keith look down.

Yes, they got the Mick/Keith look down but the rest of the players look nothing like their counterpart. (with slight exception to the African American woman who sings on Gimme shelter).

When it comes to tribute bands, looking like the band is far less important than sounding like them, IMO. There is a Zeppelin tribute band call "Get the Led Out" that looks nothing like LZ, but sounds almost exact. Even employing as many additional instrumentalists as needed to properly cover overdubs and double tracks etc.

In the case of the Glimmer Twins, they go the route of emulating their characters (Mick and Keith) physically, be still do a great job sounding like the band as well.

Was at their Pittsburgh Rivers Casino show, a couple years ago. It was a damn good time.

A lot of great artists come to AC in the summer. I have a vacation home 4 miles south of AC and go to see a show whenever I can. Saw Ted Nugent a couple weeks ago, Saw Jimmy Buffet open up his restaurant in the beginning of the summer. Beach Boys, Buddy Guy, Kenny Loggins and Wayne Newton are coming in the next couple of months.
I also saw the Glimmer Twins at the 1st Philly Show. Not too bad. My daughter, 11, thought they were the stones....

Yeah, it was a little surreal how much they looked like circa 1970's Mick and Keith. Nice that you took your little girl, I had my little 19 year old girl with me too. smiling smiley

Having seen them when they started, I think they are getting better and better.
They really had the crowd going at Xfinity in Philly after a few songs.

Saw them a couple years ago at Jones Beach on Long Island, as a lifelong Stones fan, they're the real deal

Hope you all have a blast! Jazzbass is spot on. I work extensively with a band called Bonfire. We have filmed a show for them (full multi-track too) and they look NOTHING like AC/DC. However, they sound EXACTLY like them. The right beat, accurate riffs, perfect guitar tone, and the singer sounds exactly like Bon Scott.

Every Stones tribute band I have heard does something to 'jazz up' Stones songs. Here's what I have seen so far. I have NOT seen the Glimmer Twins, so I hope they don't do these things...

1. Drummers who do not play like Charlie. I have yet to hear a Stones tribute band with a drummer who lifts the highhat and doesn't overplay. It always feels like I'm hearing the drummer from Creed or something. No swing, just lots of smashing. As if hitting the kit harder makes you rock.

2. Guitarists not playing in Open-G. When something 'doesn't sound quite right', this is usually the first culprit.

3. Jazzing up the guitar riffs. Usually this is just the guitarists having fun, so you can't fault them for enjoying playing the tunes! But I listen to Keith because he is the King of Riff! He doesn't play like Clapton, so don't pretend to be him but then throw Jeff Beck licks out there.

4. Singers... I wish you luck. Mick is effortless in his work. Effortless. That is the word. He IS Mick Jagger so it doesn't take anything on his part to BE Mick Jagger. All Stones tribute band lead singers HAVE to try to BE Mick Jagger. That is an impossible task and I have yet to see anyone come close. Usually they end up looking like George Thorogood and sounding like a dying goat.

With all that being said, I always enjoy seeing others attempt tributes to my favorite band. The more the sound like them and the less they look like them, the most I respect them. smileys with beer

It's impossible sounding like Mick, but I think Sergio does a fine job here:

Excellent point. I won't deny, they can be a little cheesy in their imitation, but Charlie is the toughest "act" to imitate IMO. He plays with a certain something, that swing that most rock drummers do not have. It's definitely a jazz thing, but it's even more than that.

Guitar wise, this band stays true to the riffs. THe Keith guy, playing solid 5 string open G, and the Mick T guy, a virtuoso in the Taylor bluesy style.

The Jagger guy takes things a little over the top for my taste, like the fake british accent "think I busted a button on my trousers, hope they don't fall down". schtick between numbers. But they are really fun, and do an admirable job sounding like the Stones.

I have seen the Glimmer twins and they pale in comparison to undoubtedly the Greatest Stones Cover Band ever, The Blushing Brides. If you haven't seen them, check them out. I promise you will be blown away!!!
