Actually, it's not a tough but a simple question. There's two of them: JJF and Brown Sugar. Just try to imagine music's history without them, it's impossible, you end up with a big gap. They've always been there, they're as old as the universe.

that's a very philosophical answer but I like it..I'd add Gimme Shelter for good measure..

Well, hard for one song to do.

For the fun of it, though, I'll go with 'I wanna be your man.' Jagger's salacious lead vocals and the loud, irrating guitar by Brian Jones signified what was to come from the Stones from that point on (the opposite of the Beatles, etc.).

If there should be a third song then this one indeed - the third rock from the sun.

Rocks Off
I've Got The Blues
Loving Cup
Sweet Virginia
Dead Flowers
and a whole load more

There are just so many. Can't just comprise it into one single song, can you?

One of their worst and also a terrible song to "clearly show what the stones were all about".

Of course, there is not one song that does that, but hey ho. grinning smiley

Time Waits for No One is a great song..certainly shows what Mick Taylor was all about...and he was/is a Rolling Stone!smileys with beer

But is it what the Stones were all about? It's not a typical Stones-number, even though there is some nice playing on it?

Well,to me, the Stones are talented, versatile artists with a huge body of work. They've been around for 50 years (and counting)! They could be sexy, raunchy, tender, drug-fueled, and philosophical with a touch of sadness like in this song. So I believe, in part, Time Waits for No One is representative of them. There's really so much material to choose from. Wonder what each band member would say if asked this question...or have they already answered it?smiling smiley

That would be interesting, indeed, although I think Keith has answered JJF earlier.
