The new Black Sabbath album -13- was released here in Germany yesterday.
What a record.Ozzy in top form!
I can listen to the record again and again.
I recommend in Germany to buy the cd-album at Mediamarkt or Saturn. This editon has an bonus track "Naïveté in Black".In the USA you can get this version at bestbuy.

+1. Great record, despite drummer drama. I discussed it with Ozzy and Geezer yesterday.

I got my Black Sabbath 13 double vinyl, and it sounds great, a lot of darkness but enjoyable. In the end of the album you can hear the thunder and lightning from BS first album, BS used as well the inner psychadelic vinyl centre from BS album "Masters of Reality". It sounds like BS has never been away!

Black Sabbath make UK chart history with first Number One Album in nearly 43 years;

Quite good, but a bit dragging in places, imo.

Ozzy sounds remarkably strong, though.

Great album! Mixing the classic space dread with more contemporary attack. Sounds fabulous. And yes, Ozzie shocked me on how good he sounds. I hope the show in August is great! Looking forward to it.

It is pretty great! Awesome solos and Geezer's bass sound is badass!

Only thing that is a negative, and Rubin is getting criticized for is the loudness of the album. He boots all the red lines on this. . . but still a great album. Some fantastic changes in the long songs, starting slow, nice classic Sabbath head banging then slow blues with nice sleazy harp. Great stuff. Reminds me of Paranoid and Vol. 4.

Please no.

Like other Rick Rubin recent productions, the sound on Black Sabbath new album is dreadful. Compression's all over.

Mick can have the album produced by Rubin and the Mastering done by another guy... (Steve Hoffman)P & M are two diff. beasts.

And... ABB had the levels in the reds and afaik Rubin wasn't involved.

I know loud music is a general trend but I've norticed that Rick Rubin's recent productions sound lound AND compressed beyond any common sense.

Also it's not only a matter of having levels in red but more about compressing dynamics and limiting peaks so that listeners will get the impression to listen to "loud" music. But at the end all we get is flat music with no more nuances.
This is just how sounds Black Sabbath's "13" on CD.

All the compression and "loudness" is due to modern listening ie. mp3 files vs. cds.

Because the vast majority will hear the album in digital format, most new albums are "mastered for itunes" so it will sound best within the confines of mp3 players and pc speakers.

Cry all you want but thats how it is. Most listeners cannot tell any difference.

Some people still can tell the difference. That's the problem I guess.
Most of the rock & pop music released in the last 10 years sounds bad. That's the reason why I stopped buying new CD's like I used to do. Music industry should pay attention to this kind of "detail"...

Black Sabbath topping the Billboard charts must be a pleasant surprise for the band. Never been a huge fan, but I saw them in Japan a couple of months ago and Tommy Iommi's still amazing. Happy for them (and for rock in general)

The album is ok, nothing special about it. It stands out in times where nothing spectacular is released anymore......and its better than expected from that line up...:-)...and it tops the charts beacause the buyers are also over 60.

So the dumb/deaf majority should drag down the 5%ers who care about quality with them...
The "funny" thing is the music biz is the last field where HD hasn't dug its hole. Even porn is shot on HD and sold on HQ media.

Can't music fans or "fans" enter the 21th century? Are they sheep who need a trend-setter (à la Steve Jobs) to do this? eye rolling smiley

Must be the same 60 year olds that put Queens of the Stone Age at no. 1 the week before.
