I love this band too.I have about 4 of their CD's,and they are a great psychedelic
band. Its so awesome to hear songs that are not commercialized and played on the radio every day. I wish the Rolling Stones would play more rare songs in concert.

Scene from documentary "You're Gonna Miss Me" about rock legend Roky Erickson and his battle with schizophrenia.

Scene: "Doctors, cops and family members and friends talk about Roky's time in mental hospital."

Love Roky, especially the first three Elevators lps (right you are, Silver Dagger!). I bought the very cool, though very pricey, Music of the Spheres box set a couple of years ago, it's wonderful. I like a lot of solo Roky as well and the album from a couple years back with Okkervil River was pretty fine, too.

Huge fan.

Saw him twice in the past year and a half in Hoboken NJ. He has it together to a point, his band rocks, and you canlook into his eyes and see someone whop has been to hell and back, one of the few who has prevailed over mental illness that severe.

There's a torrent out there of a great live set from the Avalon in 66 that's worth getting, great sound. This is a band that inspired the Airplane, Dead, etc. And those first three albums are in a class of their own.

The Elevators were the first acid rock band. When they played San Francisco for the first time, the Grateful Dead saw them. The story goes that that's where the Dead got the idea to play while tripping.

Hey jpasc95 - If you like I Think Of Demons, I think you should buy the whole "Evil One" CD/album - It's great, the guitars are amazing on every song of the whole album. You wont be dissapointed, it's one of the life long albums that you wont regret.

The Evil One was just re-mastered remixed and reissued, an import on CHerry Red/Mojo records. Get this one, don't get an earlier version, they sound lke crap compared to this new one. Seitan is right, it's a great album. You Also may find it under the title Five Symbols.

Yeah, that's the one: Roky Erickson And The Aliens: Evil One

After having been released from the state mental hospital, Erickson first formed a band which he called "Bleib alien", Bleib being an anagram of Bible and/or German for "stay," and "Alien" being a pun on the German word allein "alone" - the phrase in German therefore being "remain alone." Erickson asserted that a Martians had inhabited his body. So I guess - it's a concept album about martians and demons taking over his body or something. He recorded 15 new songs with producer Stu Cook, former bass player of Creedence Clearwater Revival and that's the classic Evil One album. I think it's one of his greatest albums. And if you're interested in Roky's music - it's a really good place to start.

There's a great double CD reissue of Evil One
( disc one is the classic album and bonus disc has great alternative takes of the songs) - I would buy that one.

A cool band, I got a couple of albums;
1; Live is a 1968 studio album by the psychedelic rock band 13th Floor Elevators- vinyl
2; Psychedelic Circus- cd. The 15 songs on this collection represent the best performances from the existing 1966 and 1967 live tapes.

Several years ago - the box set "Sign Of The Three Eyed Men" was released which contained every studio recording plus all known live recordings in one set. It's a phenomenal collection, tho hard to find. If you're a fan, and you see it, you gotta get it!

There was also a really good book biography, very well researched, on the Elevators by Julien somebody. An Amazon search will turn it up.

The drummer, John Ike Walton, also runs his own website that sells T-shirts, Cds, etc.

The best psychedelic band ever. And what those guys went through...my God!
