Taylor recalls the brit styles of Allen Hollsworth, Mike Rutherford and Steve Howe. Still he is first and foremost a blues guy but he has other harmonic strengths and he touches these long lost stylists from time to time. Like Hendrix, Duane Allman and Terry Kath he is willing to take a chance and can turn a "bum" note into a beautiful turn.. The difference is he's thankfully still with us, the last of a generation of true guitar explorers. We are lucky he was recalled from the trash heap....

I think Charlie nailed it at 8:26 - 8:29.

I can't stop watching this...and it's not just Taylor. It's the Stones surprising themselves and bringing things (and us) to new heights. Pure joy.

When I get home tonight, I'm going to hook my computer up to my large screen TV and watch this until my wife comes in the room and says, "Bluzdude, how many times can you sit there and watch this?"

Charlie was great on this too!

Agreed, it's not just Taylor.

So happy to hear Mick Taylor playing with the stones! Unfortunately my sixteen year old and I were not able to see them on Monday 5/20/13 at the Staple center. Not being able to afford tickets we took a chance on buying tickets on the street at the Staple center. I found a fellow who over heard me say that I just wanted my son and I to get in without paying an arm and a leg. He pulled out two tickets and wanted a little more than I was willing to pay but it was already 9;05. We made the deal and proceeded to the door. After the security check, our tickets were scanned and discovered that the tickets had already been used. My sixteen year old and I were escorted out of the building. We were heart broken. This would have been the first time my son would seen the stones live. I grew up with the stones and have been a fan since the release of "Satisfaction". My son got hip to the stones when the only music he was able to download to his Ipod was my music library that was filled with Stones songs.I even taught his some songs on guitar. Money was tight when stones tickets went on sale but I was able to put some money together for Monday's show. After being kick out my son and I found some benches by the doors to the staple center where we were able to hear the stones play a truly fantastic set. That was the best we could do. I took a big risk buying scalper tickets, this was only the third time since the early seventies when I started going to concerts that I did this. This time I payed dearly. There was a certain disgust when my son and I started to see people leave the concert around the time the stones played "Can't you hear me Knocking". We would have stayed to the end, even on a school night! My son was really looking forward to seeing them. I only hope the Stones come around again!

Dang Sixthstone, sorry to hear about your bad luck with the tickets. Glad though that you and your son tried to make the best out of the bad situation and that you both were able to at least hear some of the music. Hopefully both of you have another chance soon to see the Rolling Stones.

Your wife calls you "Bluzdude"?

Your kids must have names even more interesting than Frank Zappa's kids.

Brian? ... but his birthday is July 26. Dr told my wife she had to have a C-section between July 25 & 27....I immediately told my wife and her doctor that is's going to be on the 26th.

No, I couldn't go that far. Brian and July 26 was about as far as I could go with it. But he did witness history in the making on May 20 and I also took him to the Slane Castle show in 2007.

"Can't You hear Me Knocking?" made me speechless yesterday, and I don't know if I can do any better now. Sometimes some things just hit so hard, that any attempt to "analysis" seems inappropriate. I talked something about it - or reflected it to band's over-all dynamics in Taylor's sticky thread - but that had nothing to do with the impact the performance in that little (technically) crappy clip had on me.

It was a musical sex exercise. And this time first time for ages - it was not Mick Jagger responsible for it. No, Mick was just another band member warming up the band and us to the real action. The whole first section of the song - the real song - was just a foreplay to get us and them into it. To get horny. Yeah, the band was sloppy but still having more balls in their sound than in its earlier takes a decade ago. Keith hitted the riff chords simply and roughly, and the "boys" little beefing it. Jagger sounded like an amateur sometimes, running out of any ideas finally, and just somehow delivering the last lines before letting the band free. Haven't seen Jagger so "out of it" for ages. Perhaps he was so anxious than all of us to hear what Lil' Mick do. Maybe he was a nervous as well. He's human, after all.

Well... then... finally.... Mick Taylor, with a great assistance of Bobby Keys, gave to him, to them. and to us, such a sex act... no, that's too rude word... it was pure making love, damn kama sutra in guitar. The last moments, when finally getting to the outro - which asked patience from forever eager Jagger - was such an orgastic musical explotion I haven't seen for ages or ever. That determination in Taylor's face and sound - and the whole band just in total awe of him, staring at him - perhaps not even really understanding what is happening now - the band totally taken over by that guitar, and them just... lovingly following that guidance until the happy end.

And I thought I've seen it all.... Never mind the mistakes, sloppiness. who did and what, etc. Music just cannot be better for me. This is it.

The Rolling Stones 2013. My band.

It's fun to watch Jagger. It seems like he is really uncomfortable with this long solo. It looks like he keeps making gestures that Taylor should get on with it.

Cheers,
Wuudy

Wuudy, Mick is really getting into the solo. He must be realizing what he has been missing in the live version of this song and its wonderful solo by Mick T. You can see him say to Taylor @ 6:52, "go!...Play!"
It's only going to get better from here!

Nice pics! OK, regarding Sway, good job guys, but slow that sucker down a bit. Sounds like Stray Cat Blues (not that there's anything wrong with that). When they did Sway in '03, the new tempo sort of made sense but with three guitars there now, that "bounce" makes the vocal rushed, as well as Taylor's solo.

Aah, there is a difference. Is it just an aesthetic one, or is there actual semantic difference between those two notions? I trust your authority here...
