Yes but there is no "normal" temperature in the history of our planet. Warmer would be better though, for plants, people and animals.

A Stones tour of Germany predicts a hot summer - in the sense of going to the public swimming pool. I know it sounds silly, but data can be confirmed way back to 1973! No information about the summers of 1965, 1967 and 1970 was immediate. If you know, tell me. Mind: This is a weather forecast for Germany only...
I even remember a terrible spring and suddenly the sun came out and by incident I switched on the radio and two or three minutes later there was breaking news: The Stones confirm a tour of Europe (Germany).

Here in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, USA it was 70 degrees, which is about 15 degrees above the normal temp for Nov 1. Going to 26 at night in 3 days...go figure!

We've had some Indian summer days here too, mickschix. This morning it was close to 70 degrees when I left the house, windy and humid. My hair still hasn't recovered.grinning smiley

There are people saying that Haiyan was as strong as it was because of global warming.

Let's see... there have never been category 5 typhoons over there. Ever.

The Phillipines get hit more than any country on the planet except China for the past 40 some years. The ocean is much larger there than anywhere else for tropical cyclones. How global warming has anything to do with it is beyond me.

Sometimes the news can get confusing. For those who don't know, a typhoon is just another name for a hurricane. This was the most powerful storm ever recorded. The devastation is horrific, complicated by the nature of the Philippines (7,000 islands spread out). Here is a link in case you would like to help out:

Thank you for the link, crholmstron. One of my co-workers is from the Philipines and was frantic last week until she found out her family was okay. It's terrible what's happened there.

My wife was there during the super typhoon, she was in Manla which only got heavy rain. Her brothers home in Mindoro was destroyed and blown away.

Acts of nature happen everywhere, but this one is on an unimaginable scale. This is the real tragedy:

Thank you all for your support. I know not the typical fuel for the forum but there is no such thing as too much publicity for this. I don't think a lot of people get the scale of the devastation & those folks in the Philippines don't have the enormous publicity apparatus of a NYC. I brought up that I hoped this situation would receive the energy that amusement parks in NJ have received on another forum. It was not well received. C'est la vie. At least I got a response. Thanks again. PS: I too have a friend with family in the Philippines. It is a very tense time & those people need all the support they can get.
