Thank you all for your support. I know not the typical fuel for the forum but there is no such thing as too much publicity for this. I don't think a lot of people get the scale of the devastation & those folks in the Philippines don't have the enormous publicity apparatus of a NYC. I brought up that I hoped this situation would receive the energy that amusement parks in NJ have received on another forum. It was not well received. C'est la vie. At least I got a response. Thanks again. PS: I too have a friend with family in the Philippines. It is a very tense time & those people need all the support they can get.

It wasn't just amusement parks in NJ that got attention, it was all those surrounding left homeless (many who still are.)

Sometimes the news can get confusing. For those who don't know, a typhoon is just another name for a hurricane. This was the most powerful storm ever recorded. The devastation is horrific, complicated by the nature of the Philippines (7,000 islands spread out). Here is a link in case you would like to help out:

Close enough. The effects are devastating nonetheless.Quote

Incorrect. Not the strongest storm ever recorded - the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone ever.

There are people saying that Haiyan was as strong as it was because of global warming.
Let's see... there have never been category 5 typhoons over there. Ever.
The Phillipines get hit more than any country on the planet except China for the past 40 some years. The ocean is much larger there than anywhere else for tropical cyclones. How global warming has anything to do with it is beyond me.

Stay warm, Max's! It's in the 20's here (low 30's day) which is cold for Seattle. Luckily, I get to work from home today.

Hmmm... They may want to change that to “parts of the U.S.”... Currently 71-F here in Knoxville, TN (VERY mild for December here)... A week ago we gave our German Sheppard the privilege of sleeping inside the house due to the temps being down in the teens. Maybe they're just late in their weather updates.
Seriously though, I do understand that much of the country is pretty dang cold and suffering through some serious "crap". We're counting our blessings that we're so mild and only expecting rain for the next few days. I have no doubt that, sometime in the next few months, I'll be one of those cussing the fact that I'm snowed in! The worst part is, where I live it only takes minimal snow/ice to make it hazardous to try leaving my neighborhood. The combination of an apx. 70' elevation drop, 9 corners & untreated roads over about a .15 mile stretch, I'm not going to risk MY car trying to get out if I can't see that some of my neighbors have already gotten out successfully!
Here's hoping that Max & cr (and any others not currently experiencing Knoxville’s luck) stay warm, dry & safe while the rest of us enjoy our brief reprieve before the inevitable arrival of the crap to our neighborhoods!
Peace,
Mr DJA

This makes this geographical thread a bit tricky then . . .Let's say that I'm way further south than Knoxville, and the temp. has dropped like a stone over the last few hours. Totally wacky weather. Can't wait for my transatlantic travel next week--NOT.
