Johnny Cash, Paul, John, Keith, Bruce.

The list could be much longer of course (Bob, George, Mick, Elvis, Joe Perry...) Endless in fact. But if I could really pick one and say talk one hour with him / her, then Johnny Cash.

King David - I want to learn the secret chord and the melodies to some of the psalms.
Keith Richards - To Say Thanks, fire up & listen to the waves crash
Chuck Berry - To Say Thanks for everything
James Jamerson or Willie Dixon - To Say Thanks & hopefully get a quick bass lesson
W.A. Mozart/J.S. Bach - To say thanks and to hopefully just listen
Willie Nelson - I think he's discovered the meaning of life.
Allison Krause - I want to record her singing lullabies for an hour and then sleep like a baby for the rest of my life.

Wow... What a great question... If forced to pick just one of those, I think I'd let someone else choose as no matter who I pick, I'd always regret not picking one of the others.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Can I come too? I'll sit quietly. Just the cake for me, thanks. I want to bring Jim Morrison - the Beach Boys were his favorite group, reportedly.

Eddie Vedder or Keith.

Keith or Ian Hunter for the live ones. Mick Ronson or Bolan for the dead.

Actually if you could go back and meet the dead what would you say?

"Marc don't let Gloria drive you home"
"John beware autograph hunters"
"Brian don't go swimming!"

There's a really good novel based on that premise (pretty much) called "Glimpses" by Lewis Shiner.

"If You Could Hang One Musician..."

...I'd pick Maccca. I never could stand the guy...

who was the bar owner that passed on awhile back, met Keith on a flight to Fla. and ended up hangin' out with him? Said keith would come calling his name across the sand with drink in hand... thats the way to hang, purely spontaneous.

The object is to pick ONE, with the exception of Chuck Leavell as he would be everyone's first choice anyway.

All things considered, I'd go with Macca, even though historically, Bach or Vivaldi, or Robert Johnson would present such interesting windows to their eras (although the German or Italian language barrier would be a problem eye rolling smiley).

Elvis would be great, but as much as I love the guy, I'm afraid he's one dimensional. Brian Wilson would be on my A-list, but based on personal experience, don't think there would be a connection. Point taken StonesNow about the personalities being different than the art, as we've gone over ad naseum. Duane, Django could be contenders. Keith would be great, but not as complex or feature-rich as Macca IMO.

Would love to bang around on a couple acoustics with Macca. All told that's my pick.

None. I prefer the impersonal distance from well-known musicians I admire, the company of whom I would never belong in anyway. I would rather enjoy what they have produced, as even an hour of social contact might change what I think of them personally, and I would rather not think of them in the personal sense....

thumbs up

Same for me I really don't want to meet people who I (have) admired.

What if they a head smaller then me confused smiley

Truth.

Sort of truth. Not because of the "impersonal distance" or not wanting to find out things you'd rather not have known, but because of the not belonging. Why should we think any of them would waste good music-making time "hanging" with random fan-worshipping strangers?

Apart from possibly Keith Moon, dead ones are never much fun to hang around. Plus, they tend to smell a bit and of you're not careful people will begin to think it's you.

Don't push as hard as that, Elvis. Relax and it'll happen naturally.

Elvis Presley of course...and over a deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwich I'd ask him to buy me a car.

That's why I said pick a musician "from the past", not "deceased."

Pick one as they would be in their prime or later to hang out with.

Elvis w/ fried PB&J and bacon is a worthy pick treacle.

Is it kill-joy or joy-kill? That one always confuses me, because either way the message is the same.

One thing I know, is it's not Kilroy, because that's from a Sticks song. Or is it Stix?

Keith, of course. It would have to be between Anita and Patti, when we were both footloose and fancy free....
