There's a lady calling in to one of the local TV stations here who is located outside of the levee system and did not evacuate.

She is trapped in her attic with her elderly mother and pleading for help.
She says the water in her house is up to the ceiling.

She says her truck broke down, preventing her from evacuating.

She must have not gotten read the memo... well maintained car full of gas.

But all that aside.... had to be a pretty sad call to hear.

The thing that would worry me the most about hurricane force winds is what they say about...."IT IS NOT THAT THE WIND IS BLOWING 80 MPH, IT IS WHAT THE WIND IS BLOWING AT 80 MPH... e.g street signs, 2x4s, eggs, trash, chickens etc etc etc. I dont wanna get hit by a chicken (or egg) flying at 80 mph... that might ouch.

Yeah, since I don't have a garage, I'm worried about my car that is parked outside.

I'll go out later to see how it is.

I hope your car is ok... and your stay dry and safe today EG...

Appears they lost power down there... as the eye moves by New Orleans...

We still have power in the French Quarter, probably because the lines are underground here.
No flooding reported, as of yet, within the levee system.
The heaviest winds came in about two hours ago, gusting up to 62 MPH.

The whole house has been shaking overnight.
It's like I spent a night on one of those vibrating beds in a cheap hotel room, and I didn't even have to put a quarter in the machine !

Daybreak is soon, and we'll see more of what it looks like then.

LOL - Stay safe (and dry)!

Lee,are you at work now ? I was worrying about the Firebird in the garage ...and then I thought about the other car ...oh no! After the crash of the building, you don't need another car injury .

About this poor woman you mentionned ,that's really horrible .I remember having heard a last call a woman gave to the police or fire dpt -I don't remember - during Katrina ,saying the water was geting into the attic and she had no ax to open the roof ...Geez , I feel so sorry for all this people.

Are you seeing the footage of Jim Cantore out on Canal? He is on the weather channel, water up to his knees, holding onto a fire hydrant trying to keep from blowing away... he is kind of nuts.

I was only able to watch Rob Marciano yesterday .

I was only able to watch Rob Marciano yesterday .

I tried to upload some video of Jim hanging on to the fire hydrant, but it failed... and I am lazy... so I didnt try twice... but it is pretty funny looking.... then Al Roker went out with Jim (in sideways rain / 40-60 mph winds) and it looked redonkulous grinning smiley

Here is pic (of the TV) of Jim holding on to the fire hydrant.

The "eye" of Isaac, for which there hasn't really been one, a clear one anyway, stayed south of New Orleans. It's now heading NW slowly towards - supposedly - Baton Rouge after hanging out over Thibodaux and Houma most of the day. Storm surge in Lake Pontchartrain has gone up and in some places is higher than it was for Ike but still a little short of Rita and a good ways below Katrina.

Just wanted to mention that there is also a good side to this storm. The drought strictened midwest will receive much needed rain.

I am not sure my English will translate well what EG told me one hour ago but ...
HE IS OK !
He's doing well but his internet & phone lines are down .
When I called him he was just about to cook /bake some salmon & potatoes.

He told me there was no "major flood " in the French Quarter ,although some homes very near the Misissipi were flooded.

I told him I was sooo worried because of what I watched on CNN .

PM to :
"YouLoveToPlayTheBlues " EG asked if I got some news from you on iorr.

Well now that everybody's safe, who's up for some surfing? I hope somebody is taking advantage of the rare big waves in the Gulf. Some decent windsurfing can happen in the 40-50 mph wind range.

I was once windsurfing on Castaic Lake in So. California when a 70 mph Santa Ana windstorm blew in suddenly. Unfortunately my 6.0 sq. meter sail was too big and it picked me and the rig completely out of the water and tossed us downwind like a tumble weed. Hard to forget the feeling of being lifted vertically right out of the water by the force of the sideways wind.

EdithGrove obviously knows what to do in such a storm...cook up some fresh salmon steaks. peace

PS
DANG NL!!!
my 6.0 sq. meter sail was too big and it picked me and the rig completely out of the water and tossed us downwind like a tumble weed. We are lucky you are still with us... 70mph? holy crap!
