OT - Favorite Music Year

50 years as a band - unbelievable. So many great years of music.

General question - Looking back if you had to choose one year as your favorite (its hard to do) and then pick 20 albums, what would it be?

1967 for me (in no particular order) :

Hendrix - Are You Experienced
Hendrix - Axis Bold As Love
Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates OF Dawn
Stones - Satanic
Stones - Buttons
Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Doors - The Doors
Doors - Strange Days
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
Traffic - Mr Fantasy
Buffalo - Buffalo Springfield Again
Beatles - Pepper
Beatles - MMT
Love - Forever Changes
Love - De Capo
Who - The Who Sell Out
Donavon - Mellow Yellow
The Young Rascals - Groovin
Small Faces - There are But Four Small Faces (US version)

I know I must of missed something!

The range of music which I love spans far too many years to get stuck liking just one. I never give back music just because others may say it is not cool anymore.

Being from the Midwest originally, I'm a big fan of garage band music, which peaked in 1966 and then ebbed under the weight of psychedelia. Jangly guitars, cheatin' girls. I'm all in.

Good question. I often take requests at my shows as long as the music requested is between 1967-1973, it was a particularly good run for creativity and influence in my music world. Even though I was just a toddler at the time, it hit me hard a few years later.

If I had to pick one year it would likely be 1971 followed by 1969.

I sure wish we could have another run like that but since almost no artist development is happening and no one is buying new records I'm not very optimistic. peace

Relax Max, a few good ones after 1973/74 but not nearly as many. Yes VH's 1st was OK, The Wall wasn't great until the current show came along, imho. Floyd topped out with DSOTM and Wish You Were Here, ZZ Top topped out with Fandango, Def Leppard could hardly play their instruments, Metallica has maybe 2 good songs total, Zepplin was on the skids in the late 70's .....you've got to admit not much could top the quality of recorded output from '67 to '73 or '74. Seven years of amazing stuff. peace

I have to go with 1966. Look at the singles charts from that year (I'll post it later).
There were some great singles. Plus, that year gave us Aftermath, Pet Sounds, Revolver, Blonde On Blonde, Face To Face, the 2 S&G albums, 5D, the first Springfield album, Sunshine Superman and on and on...

Showing my age here:

1957

Charlie Gillett said that rock'n'roll petered out around 1958.That was the year that "ballads" were touted as the next big thing, and rock'n'roll sort of ran out of steam. Or maybe it was just that I grew one year older, and was less impressionable.

Here's a sample of what was in the charts in'57:

Tony Blackburn - Pick Of The Pops 1957 (BBC R2)

MP3 @ 128kbps, 56 min. BBC R2 14/7/12.

I found it to be such a high-quality chart that I recorded it, something that I've never before been inclined to do with PotP.

I think that 1965 thru 1973 were the most important years in many, many ways.
