"Bono will become the richest musician in the world today, reports say, stealing the title from Paul McCartney.
According to the British music magazine NME, with the initial public offering of Facebook stock today, Bono will substantially boost his wealth.
The U2 front man was wise enough to buy into the social media network in 2009, purchasing 2.3 percent of the shares in Facebook through his private equity firm, Elevation Partners.
While Bono's firm bought the shares for $90 million three years ago, the shares are now valued at $1.5 billion. It remains unclear how many shares Bono personally holds or if they were solely purchased by the equity firm."

I disagree "stealing from Paul McCartney" I think you deserve a title "richest musician" if you earned in music.

Bob Dylan whose publishing catalog is rather impressive, especially compared to Bono and U2, is not actually starving.
Dylan was one of Steve Jobs idols. For all we know Bobby may have more groovy tech stocks than even the sainted Bono...you know him...the guy that loves Ireland but likes to live in fancier places.

Bono isn't really even a musician , a singer yes but the term musician is usually reserved for people who can play an instrument. I like what he did on Mick's documentary being Mick but to be wowed by his personal investments?

I think Jagger and Bono are often referred to as singers since that's what they do most of the time. I guess any singer can grab a tambourine and call themselves a musician but Jagger plays quite a few instruments- not so sure about Bono.

My advise to Bono - get rid of those shares.
Facebook will be another one of those "not value shares" in a few moths.
Just another crap value shares like those dot.com shares some 10 years ago.

I certainly wouldn't buy the stock. Facebook is huge but it's not likely to get any bigger than it is now. It is probably at it's peak right now and the shares are more likely to go down than up.

Has anyone else read KILLNG BONO by Neil McCormick? It's a fascinating memoir by a guy who went to high school with all the members of U2, tried to make it as a pop star himself, but failed utterly as he watched his old school buddies blast to superstardom. The tone throughout is bittttter! This new development won't help McCormick's state of mind.
