Never been a fan of boxed sets. They are, usually, to pricey for me. Music journalists often praise them: I wonder if that has something to do with the fact that they get them for free and don't have to worry about the pricetags?

Bruce Springsteen - The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story. Phenomonal packaging! Also a great wealth of material!

Some of you are looking at the music only. I think when it comes to judging which boxset you think is the best, look at the overall presentation. Packaging, liner notes, photos etc...There might be a band out there whose music you're not a fan of but their boxset might be very well put together.

I've really enjoyed the Sony/Columbia-Legacy Byrds set.
Also: mentioned on here recently, the Leonard Cohen set. Of course this was just a packaging of his first ten, or so, studio releases.
I'm a big honky-tonk fan, so I also love the Patsy Cline box set, which IIRC was done by the Country Music Hall of Fame, and overseen by Emmylou Harris.

can someone who has THE BAND- A MUSICAL HISTORY boxset post some pics into this thread showing the inside of the packaging and the way the cd's/dvd are held in the set please?
CDs are in rear of booklet housed much the same as the Some Girls Deluxe
set but in a much thicker cardboard .....

I can't believe all this fretting over packaging. Take the CDs out of the packaging, stick them in some cheap plastic jewel cases, throw the packaging away, and see the forest for the trees.
