OT: Which are your top ten concerts of 2011?

Hello everybody,

Since I went to my last concert of the year yesterday(which also happens to be in my Top Ten list), I thought I start a new thread about our favourite concerts of 2011. So here are mine:

10. Smashing Pumpkins, 23.11. Berlin: strange atmosphere, now a completely different band but still fantastic songs!

9. Prince, 28.7., Cologne: VERY strange atmosphere, very short, but the music he played played was excellent.

8. Wilco, 8.11., Frankfurt: always good

7. Elton John, 21.6., Hannover: see 8.

6. Queens of the Stone Age, 2.5., Cologne: they played my favourite QOTSA record, the first one, in its entirety. I really like this concept of performing complete records, especially when bands pick their better ones (see also 3.).

5. Yusuf aka. Cat Stevens, 10.5., Hamburg: beautiful songs, a very long and relaxed show; he has a fantastic voice!

4. Paul Simon, 9.7., Hamburg: great songs, great setting, great band, great performance.

3. Monster Magnet, 11.12., Osnabrück: I saw them yesterday in a small club in a small city. They played the complete "Dopes To Infinity" album. My ears are still ringing: ROCK 'N' ROLL!!! So much fun...

2. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, 30.8., Cologne: nice record release club concert in a very small venue. I really like their new songs and Anthony Kiedis finally sings on stage!

1. Paul McCartney, 1.12., Cologne: The best (as always).

Biggest disapointment: George Michael, The Orchestral Tour. Somehow, the concept didn't really work so well. It was actually rather boring...

Social Distortion at Shepherd's Bush Empire.

Dylan/Knopfler in Glasgow (both nights)

Ryan Adams at the Barbican, London

The Specials in Belfast (edit - forgot about that one - thanks , Simon)

The Avett Brothers at Shepherds Bush

Emmylou Harris in Dublin

Gillian Welch in Belfast

Steve Earle & The Dukes in Belfast

Van Morrison at Finsbury Park

The Drive By Truckers in Belfast.

Justin Townes Earle in Belfast

I'm sure Jimmy Cliff at Finsbury Park would have been on the list had the f**kwits in charge of the festival been capable of letting their ticket buyers know in advance where and when the acts would be performing, and avoiding me turning up around 3.40 only to find out that he'd already finished. angry smiley

Hello,

Every year I trot-out the same line: practically every band that I see give me something, so it's impossible to give definitives.
That said, the following artists get an honourable mention...and in no particular order either:

Roger Waters at the MEN Arena 28/06
PiL at Preston 07/06
Brian Wilson at The Bridgwater and RFH 13,18,19/09
John Mellencamp at the Manchester Apollo 01/07
Glen Campbell at The Lowry 21/10
The Specials at the Manchester Apollo 14,15/10
Steve Earle & Co. at the Manchester Academy 03/11
and some bloke called Bill Wyman at The Bridgewater 24/10.

Cheers,

Simon.

ps forgot wee Prince at the L.A. Forum 24/04. Dynamite!

I really can't recall going to any concerts this year. I did see a concert in a movie theatre that took place in Texas somewhere in 1978 that was excellent though.
