They have recorded way worse things. I don't think it's bad at all, and I love the original Dobie Gray version.

Does anyone else share my opinion that the recording of Drift Away (perhaps around '74) is absolutely horrible?
Mick Jagger's vocal is horrible, he and the music sounds like a funeral dirge, and I just want to curl up into a ball when I hear it.

Drift Away is one of my favourite outtakes by the Stones. Great song, Absolutely smokes with great Keith backing vocals. Can't wait for them to release it officially!

It was one of several covers they recorded for the studio side of an EP they were going to release. Fortunately they only released one of the covers, Ain't Too Proud To Beg.

Actually IORR was originally going to be an entire side of covers, but then they started piling up more originals and ditched the idea. Yeah, I don't get too excited by this song...seems too "happy" for the Stones during that time. And the original is far superior.

As said in my previous post -they never intended an EP or an album with a side full of covers.

Keith's playing here is fantastic!

From what I understand, Keith doesn't play or sing on this one.

But if you listen Keith is clearly audible with the main guitar and backup vocals.
